Diana Delva claims Greek A1 weekly honour - Feb 11, 2013

Diana Delva
American Diana Delva (188-F/C-88) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Panathinaikos and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 16.
The 24-year old power forward had a double-double of 34 points and thirteen rebounds, while her team crushed Olympiakos (#10, 4-12) with 22-point margin 80-58. It allowed Panathinaikos to consolidate first place in the Greek A1. Panathinaikos has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 15-1. It's Delva's second year at Panathinaikos and it's hard to imagine this team without her. University of Hartford graduate has very impressive stats this year. Delva is league's best scorer averaging so far 20.3ppg. Delva is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 10.3rpg) and averages solid 66.7% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 25-year old forward Theodora Panteli (183-F-87) of Asteras. Panteli impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Of course she lead Asteras to another comfortable win 61-47 over the lower-ranked Panionios (#11, 2-14) being unquestionably team leader. This victory allowed Asteras to move up to 8th position in the standings. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-10 record. Panteli is a newcomer at Asteras and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was former international forward Niki Zerva (183-F-79) of Olympiakos (#10). Zerva scored 17 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Zerva's great performance Olympiakos lost 58-80 to the higher-ranked Panathinaikos (#1, 15-1). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Olympiakos can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 4-12 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Zerva she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Zerva has individually a great season in Greece. After 15 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.6ppg (3rd best) and rebounds with 10.1rpg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Maria Mpousnaki) of Aris - 15 points and 12 rebounds
5. Jasmine Erving (187-C-90) of Ikaros Kalitheas - 16 points and 14 rebounds
6. Nena Nikolaidou (190-C/F-79) of Kronos AD - 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Caila Desroches (193-C) of PAOK - 16 points and 10 rebounds
8. Evangelia Kotopodi (188-F/C-87) of Aris - 18 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Dyiota Dragonea (184-F-84) of Terpsithea - 15 points and 7 rebounds
10. Lolita Lymoura (180-G-85) of Athinaikos - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Talented American Samaria Howard (170-PG-94) put on an amazing game in the last round for Terpsithea and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7. The 22-year old playmaker had a double-double of 38 points and sixteen rebounds, while her team lost the game against Kronos AD (1-6) 70-84. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. Terpsithea moved-up to the 12th position in Greek A1. The season i...   [read more]
