The most important game in the last round took place in Rethymno between third ranked AEK Athens (14-4) and eighth ranked AGOR (8-10) on Wednesday night. AEK Athens was defeated by AGOR in a tough game on the road 65-72. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of AEK Athens. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 43-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a good game for American forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick (203-89, college: S.Florida) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import point guard Gary Talton (185-90, college: Ill.-Chicago) contributed with 8 points and 5 assists for the winners. American-Georgian guard Michael Dixon (186-90, college: Memphis, agency: Diamond Sports) replied with 16 points for AEK Athens. AGOR moved-up to seventh place. AEK Athens at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. AGOR are looking forward to face Aiolos Trikallon (#10) on the road in the next round. AEK Athens will play against PAOK (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Olympiacos (17-1) which hosted in Athens 4th ranked Aris (10-8). First ranked Olympiacos managed to get a 14-point victory 69-55. The former international guard Evangelos Mantzaris (196-90) scored 11 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Erick Green chipped in 14 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Vladimir Jankovic (202-90, agency: Octagon Europe) with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Olympiacos have a solid three-game winning streak. Rather expected game when 13th ranked Kymis (5-13) lost on the road to eleventh ranked Aiolos Trikallon (7-11) 76-58 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 49-29 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Lithuanian Gilvydas Biruta (203-91, college: Rhode Island) notched a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and American point guard Mike Caffey (183-93, college: Long Beach St.) supported him with 11 points and 5 assists. Aiolos Trikallon's coach Giannis Kastritis used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds by American forward Daniel Orton (208-90, college: Kentucky) did not help to save the game for Kymis. Center Stavros Toutziarakis (210-87, agency: Octagon Europe) added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Five Kymis players scored in double figures. Aiolos Trikallon moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Lavrio and Promitheas. Kymis lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the twelfth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Apollon Patras. Aiolos Trikallon will meet at home higher ranked AGOR (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Kymis will play against Doxa Lefkadas (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Promitheas - Apollon Patras 65-58

Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Promitheas (7-11) won against at home 12th ranked Apollon Patras (5-13) 65-58 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Apollon Patras won third quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Senegalese forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Bosnian-Serbian power forward Miroslav Todic (205-85, agency: Diamond Sports) supported him with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Even 8 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists by Diamantis Slaftsakis (201-94) did not help to save the game for Apollon Patras. American-Ukrainian guard Steven Burtt (189-84, college: Iona) added 17 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Promitheas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Lavrio and Trikalla. Loser Apollon Patras keeps the twelfth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Kymis. Promitheas will meet Lavrio (#8) on the road in the next round. PAOK - Lavrio 85-80

Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Lavrio (7-11) lost to fifth ranked PAOK (10-8) in Thessaloniki 80-85 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 23-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when PAOK made 7 blocks. American players dominated the game. Power forward Keith Clanton (205-90, college: Cent.Florida) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the effort and guard Jordan Sibert (193-92, college: Dayton) supported him with 21 points. Four PAOK players scored in double figures. Even 17 points by Steven Gray (196-89, college: Gonzaga) did not help to save the game for Lavrio. Point guard Zamal Nixon (186-89, college: Houston, agency: Two Points) added 17 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. PAOK moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Aris and Kolossos HH. Loser Lavrio dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Promitheas and Trikalla. PAOK will meet higher ranked AEK Athens (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week.
