Top ranked Panionios (19-2) recorded its second loss in Thessaloniki on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by second ranked Iraklis (18-3) 80-79. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Panionios. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Strangely Panionios outrebounded Iraklis 35-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. 25 personal fouls committed by Panionios helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was guard Kostas Totsios (191-78) who scored 22 points. Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds. Iraklis' coach Vangelis Alexandris used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Sakis Karydas (182-79) who recorded 21 points. Iraklis have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 18-3 record behind leader Panionios. Newly promoted Panionios still keeps top position with two games lost. Iraklis are looking forward to face Psychiko (#7) in Athens in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Panionios will play at home against AE Larissas (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Irakleio. Fifteenth ranked Irakleio (5-15) saved a 1-point victory at home edging higher ranked Psychiko (11-10) 73-72 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Psychiko. It was a good game for forward Ioannis Lianos (202-85) who saved his team from a defeat with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Themis Koupidis contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Croatian guard Sven Smajlagic (195-90) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for Psychiko. Psychiko's coach Nikos Remendelas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Irakleio moved-up to fourteenth place. Psychiko at the other side keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Ethnikos. Irakleio will play against bottom-ranked Pagrati (#16) in Athens in the next round. Psychiko will play at home against the league's second-placed Iraklis (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
A very close game took place in Athens between Amyntas Dafnis and Holargos. Tenth ranked Amyntas Dafnis (9-12) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Holargos (10-11). Amyntas Dafnis managed to escape with a 2-point win 73-71 on Saturday evening. Spyros Diamantopoulos stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Amyntas Dafnis' coach Alexis Zavos allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Apostolos Koutroulias with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Newly promoted Amyntas Dafnis maintains tenth place with 9-12 record. Loser Holargos dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. They share it with AE Larissas. Amyntas Dafnis will meet Arkadikos (#12) in the next round. Holargos will play against Kavala (#13) and hope to secure a win.

Kavala's coach Ilias Modaidis felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kavala maintains thirteenth place with 6-14 record. Pagrati lost their eighth game in a row. They stay dead last with 19 lost games. Kavala's next round opponent will be higher ranked Holargos (#8) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pagrati will play against Irakleio (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 21 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Ethnikos defeated AE Larissas in Piraeus 81-72. Faros smashed Arkadikos at home 100-60. Doukas destroyed Doxa Pefkon on the opponent's court 76-57. Aiolos Astakou managed to outperform GS Larissas in a home game 84-69.

Kavala - Pagrati 100-55

The game with biggest result difference took place in Kavala. Local Kavala (6-14) outscored 16th ranked Pagrati (2-19) 100-55. The game without a history. Kavala led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Pagrati's 30. They outrebounded Pagrati 52-28 including a 38-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kavala players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Polish-American guard Andy Mazurczak (188, college: Wisc.-Parkside, agency: Duran International) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side and forward Antonis Sklivas (203-95) accounted for 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Kavala players scored in double figures. Kavala's coach Ilias Modaidis felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Very expected game when 11th ranked Doxa Pefkon (8-13) was rolled over at home by third ranked Doukas (17-3) 76-57. Doukas outrebounded Doxa Pefkon 40-27 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Spanish center Guillem Rubio (202-82) nailed a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and forward Andreas Kanonidis (198-91) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Dimitrios Chatzikyriakidis (192-98) came up with 12 points and Norwegian forward Karamo Jawara (203-91, college: N.C.Central) added 5 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Doxa Pefkon in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Doukas maintains third place with 17-3 record having just three points less than leader Panionios. Doxa Pefkon at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Doukas' next round opponent will be Aiolos Astakou (#5) at home.
