Groningen claim Eredivisie title - May 27, 2016

Groningen are the new Eredivisie champions. They knocked down Zwolle on the road in Game 5 of the Finals to claim the crown. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-69. Groningen dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Zwolle's 34. They outrebounded Zwolle 44-26 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Canadian power forward Ross Bekkering (203-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and American point guard Lance Jeter (190-88, college: Nebraska) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Grant Gibbs (196-89, college: Creighton) responded with 14 points and 6 steals and Canadian forward Tyson Hinz (201-91) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Five Groningen and four Zwolle players scored in double figures.

SPM Shoeters Den Bosch celebrated the Dutch Cup title. They prevailed against Leiden in a tough Final clash. The victory marked the seventh Cup success in Den Bosch history. Stefan Wessels (203-F-84) nailed 13 points including decisive points late in regulation to lead the winners.
Leiden and Den Bosch stayed neck and neck throughout the opening quarter. The scoreboard read 17:17 after ten minutes. Leiden pulled ahead in the second frame. They recorded a 39:33 halftime lead. But Den Bosch stiffened defensively in the third term. They held their opponents to just 8 points and eked out a one-point lead at the final intermission. The lead changed hands throughout the fourth quarter before Stefan Wessels gave Den Bosch a 58:57 lead. Leiden missed few chances to save the game as Den Bosch got away with a dramatic victory. Dejan Kravic (211-F-90, college: Texas Tech) posted 12 points, while Leon Williams (183-PG-91, agency: Court Side) added 9 points for the winners. Den Bosch celebrated the first trophy of the season. They earned the SuperCup title. They fired past Groningen for the trophy. Five players scored in double digits for the winners. Marcel Aarts (213-C-83, agency: R.H.Consultancy) provided 14 points in the victory.

The Orange Lions earned a narrow victory in the 2016 DBL All-Star Game. They held off DBL All-Stars selection in a tight contest. Worthy de Jong (194-SG-88) scored 25 points to pace the winners. He was trumped the MVP.
DBL All-Stars jumped to a 25:22 lead after the first period. They stretched the margin at 54:46 at the interval. Orange Lions cut the deficit at 7-point mark at the final intermission. Orange Lions followed with a 27:18 run in the fourth stanza and sealed the win. Kees Akerboom (200-SF-83, agency: Court Side) nailed 17 points, while Jeroen van der List (213-C/F-89, college: Indian Hills CC, agency: Court Side) added 15 points for the winners.
