   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Robin Smeulders (207-87, agency: Court Side, college: Portland, currently plays in EuroChallenge). He led his German team EWE Baskets to an easy victory against the third-ranked Timisoara (1-1) 84-67 in the EuroChallenge in Tuesday night's game. Smeulders scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a mere 17 minutes on the court. EWE Baskets Oldenburg (2-0) is placed first in group F. There are only four games left until the end of the EuroChallenge Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Smeulders averages: 9.5ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 75.0% in the two games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Dutch and German. Smeulders is currently a member of the Dutch senior national team.

Henk Norel

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Henk Norel (214-87, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to an easy victory against the 12th-ranked Asefa Estudiantes (4-3) 83-68 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. Norel recorded 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. CAI Zaragoza (4-3) is placed seventh in the ACB. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Norel's overall stats this year are: 10.0ppg, 5.9rpg, 2FGP: 55.6%(30-54). He is in the roster of the Dutch senior national team.

   #3. The Dutch player who performed third best last week abroad was former U16 international forward Kevin van Wijk (203-89, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA. He could not help the Valparaiso in their last game on Thursday. Despite van Wijk's very good performance the Valparaiso was edged 50-48 on the road by the University of Nebraska. He recorded 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. van Wijk has relatively good stats this season: 13.3ppg, 1.2apg, 3FGP: 43.8% and FT: 83.3%. He played for the Dutch U16 national team seven years ago.

   #4. Power forward Roeland Schaftenaar (211-88, college: Oregon St., currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Leche Rio Breogan (4-3) in their game against Meridiano Alicante (5-2) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Schaftenaar scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 17 minutes. Leche Rio Breogan lost 73-80 in Alicante to the second-ranked Meridiano. It's Schaftenaar's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 6.5ppg and 5.0rpg in the six games. Schaftenaar used to play for the Dutch national team back in 2010.

   #5. U18 international center Jito Kok (206-94, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to secure a victory for the San Diego in their last game on Thursday. Despite his good performance the San Diego was edged 74-71 at home by the Cal State - Northridge. Kok recorded 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. Kok's total stats this season are: 6.5ppg and 5.0rpg. He plays currently for the Dutch U18 national team.

   #6. Forward Shane Hammink (201-94, is currently at the American university) contributed to LSU's victory against the Univ. of California-Santa Barbara 77-63 in the NCAA on Friday night. Hammink recorded 10 points in 20 minutes. The Louisiana State University has conference record this season. This year Hammink's total stats are: 6.5ppg and 5.0rpg in the six games. He is a naturalized American. Hammink is U18 international player who is currently on the Dutch National Team roster. Strangely he has never played in Holland.

   #7. Former U20 international guard Charlon Kloof (190-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to St.Bonaventure's surprising victory against the Cornell University 72-68 in the NCAA last Wednesday. He scored 6 points in 31 minutes. The St.Bonaventure University has conference record this season. Kloof has averaged so far 6.5ppg and 5.0rpg in the six games. He used to play for the Dutch U20 national team two years ago.

   #8. Center Thomas van der Mars (208-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Portland in their game against the Ohio University (0-0) in the NCAA. van der Mars scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Portland was crushed 81-52 in Athens, OH by the Ohio University. van der Mars has averaged so far 6.5ppg and 5.0rpg. He used to play for the Dutch U20 national team back in 2010.

Former U20 international forward Kadeem Pantophlet (201-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Duquesne in their game against the University at Albany (0-0) in the NCAA. Pantophlet recorded 5 points. The Duquesne was edged 69-66 in Albany, GA by the University at Albany. Pantophlet has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Dutch U20 national team three years ago.

   #10. Center Robert Krabbendam (213-86, also represented by Court Side, college: Virginia Tech, currently plays in Cyprus) couldn't help Apollon (0-3) in their game against Keravnos (1-2) in the Cypriot Division A. Krabbendam scored 9 points in 17 minutes. But Apollon was edged in an overtime 91-88 on their home court in Limassol by the higher-ranked (#5) Keravnos. So far Apollon lost all three games in the Regular Season. Krabbendam has averaged so far 6.0ppg and 2.7rpg in the three games. He is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Dutch senior national team.

   #11. International power forward Gerald Robinson (202-84, college: Tenn-Martin, currently plays in EuroChallenge) is a teammate of previously mentioned Robert Krabbendam. But that was another game of his team in EuroChallenge which we would like to mention. Robinson couldn't help Apollon in their game against Tsmoki-Minsk. He cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. Robinson scored only 2 points in 18 minutes. His team was crushed by 31 points 93-62. He has averaged so far 1.0ppg and 2.0rpg in the two games. Robinson is a naturalized American. He used to play for the Dutch national team last year. Robinson played also for Landstede Basketbal Zwolle in Dutch league.


The list of other players, who all have Dutch passport but never been selected to any of Dutch national teams:

   #1. Stanley Ocitti (203-F/C-80, college: Binghamton, currently plays in United Kingdom) led Worcester Wolves to a victory against the tenth-ranked Cheshire Jets (2-6) 97-84 in the British BBL on Saturday night. Ocitti recorded 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and made 2 blocks in 33 minutes. Worcester Wolves (6-5) is placed fourth in the BBL. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Ocitti's first year with the team. Ocitti is currently third on the list of best rebounders with 9.7rpg. This year his other stats are: 13.3ppg and 1.2apg in the 10 games he played so far. Ocitti is a naturalized American.

   #2. Devon Van Oostrum (190-G-93, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a 2-point Caceres Basket's victory against the closely-ranked CB Clavijo (3-4) 72-70 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. Van Oostrum recorded 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. Caceres Basket (3-4) is placed ninth in the LEB Gold. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Van Oostrum has relatively solid stats: 10.6ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.3apg in the seven games. He has a dual citizenship: Dutch and British.

   #3. Kim Tillie (210-F-88, agency: Priority Sports, college: Utah, currently plays in Spain) managed to help UCAM Murcia to win against the 11th-ranked Blusens Monbus (4-3) 73-69 in the Spanish ACB on Saturday night. Tillie recorded only 4 points. UCAM Murcia (24-6) is placed in the ACB. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Tillie's overall stats this season are: 7.0ppg and 3.7rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Dutch and French.

   #4. Joey van Zegeren McAdam (208-F-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Virginia Military Institute 95-80 in the NCAA in Thursday night's game. van Zegeren McAdam recorded only 4 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The Virginia Tech has conference record this season. van Zegeren McAdam has averaged so far 6.5ppg and 5.0rpg.

   #5. Josh Duinker (210-F/C-89, college: Richmond, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Devon Van Oostrum. But that was another game of his team in Spanish LEB Gold which we would like to mention. Duinker contributed to a Caceres Basket's victory against the closely-ranked Lleida Basquet (2-5) 81-76. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 17 minutes. Caceres Basket (3-4) is placed ninth in the LEB Gold. Duinker has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.1apg in the seven games. He has both Australian and Dutch nationalities.

   #6. Denis Scott (188-F, currently plays in United Kingdom) helped Bradford Dragons win their game against the league outsider Worthing Thunder crushing them 95-67 in the British EBL D1 (second division) in Saturday night's game. Scott scored 5 points, had 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Scott belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #2. He has averaged so far 4.0ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.3apg.

   #7. Daniel Kickert (208-C/F-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in Ukraine), who plays in the Ukrainian Superleague could not help Dnipro (3-9) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance Dnipro was crushed 90-68 at home by the second-ranked Khimik. Kickert was the top scorer with 12 points. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Kickert averages: 16.4ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2bpg. He also holds two passports: Australian and Dutch.

American J.T. Yoho (198-F-93, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) had an amazing evening in the last round for Zwolle and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 11. The 23-year old forward had the game-high 25 points adding nine rebounds for Zwolle in his team's victory, helping them to beat Leeuwarden (#7, 3-8) 87-80. Eredivisie Round 11: Groningen beats Amsterdam in the most crucial game of the week - 1 day ago

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Groningen. First ranked Groningen faced 4th placed Amsterdam. Host Groningen (10-1) smashed guests from Amsterdam (5-6) 91-65. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Amsterdam managed to win second period 16-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Prom.Divisie Round 9: Lions hand first loss to Grasshoppers - 3 days ago

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Grasshoppers (8-1) in Katwijk on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked Lions (7-2) 90-80. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Grasshoppers. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league.
