There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory.

Undefeated Den Bosch (8-1) recorded its first loss on the court of third ranked Leiden on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Leiden 64-59. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Den Bosch. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. The best player for the winners was international Worthy de Jong (194-88, agency: R.H.Consultancy) who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Canadian forward Ross Bekkering (203-87) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Dejuan Wright (190-88, college: FIU, agency: Court Side) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Leiden (7-2) moved-up to second place. Defending champion Den Bosch still keeps top position with one game lost. Leiden are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Rotterdam (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Den Bosch will play against Groningen (#3) in Groningen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Groningen (6-3) against eighth ranked Weert (3-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Groningen was defeated by Weert in a tough game in Weert 77-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Groningen. American point guard Rahmon Fletcher (177-88, college: Green Bay, agency: Court Side) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points. Kenneth van Kempen contributed with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) replied with 21 points and 6 rebounds for Groningen. Groningen's coach Hakim Salem rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Weert maintains eighth position with 3-6 record. Groningen at the other side dropped to the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Zwolle. Weert will play against higher ranked Den Helder K. (#7) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Groningen will play against the league's leader Den Bosch (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

The game in Zwolle was also worth to mention about. One of their biggest challengers M.Magixx (5-4) played at the court of fifth ranked Zwolle (6-3). Zwolle defeated M.Magixx 88-78. The winners were led by Tanner Smith who scored that evening 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Zwolle moved-up to third place, which they share with Groningen. M.Magixx at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Zwolle will have a break next round. M.Magixx will play at home against Den Helder K. (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Den Helder. Local Den Helder K. (4-5) was outscored by seventh ranked Leeuwarden (4-5) 80-53 on Saturday night. Leeuwarden moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Den Helder K. Leeuwarden will face Amsterdam (#9) at home in the next round.

In the last game of round 8 bottom-ranked Amsterdam was crushed by Groningen in Groningen 91-67.



Zwolle - M.Magixx 88-78

The game in Zwolle was also worth to mention about. One of their biggest challengers M.Magixx (5-4) played at the court of fifth ranked Zwolle (6-3). Zwolle defeated M.Magixx 88-78. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. The winners were led by American guard Tanner Smith (195-90, college: Clemson, agency: Priority Sports) who scored that evening 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Darryl Webb (198-88, college: Indiana, PA, agency: Pro One Sports) supported him with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Even a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Kyle Spain (196-87, college: San Diego St.) did not help to save the game for M.Magixx. The former international power forward Nick Oudendag (210-87) added 15 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Four Zwolle and five M.Magixx players scored in double figures. Zwolle moved-up to third place, which they share with Groningen. M.Magixx at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Zwolle will have a break next round. M.Magixx will play at home against Den Helder K. (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Amsterdam can celebrate finally their first win this season after eight consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Rotterdam, where they defeated Rotterdam (1-8) 86-79 on Saturday. Amsterdam looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Maurits Pieper (198-90) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 9 rebounds and center Berend Weijs (208, college: Maryland) who added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks during the contest. American power forward Cameron Echols (203-81, college: Ball St., agency: R.H.Consultancy) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Anthony Miles (182-89, college: Lamar) scored 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Weert - Groningen 83-77

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Groningen (6-3) against eighth ranked Weert (3-6) on Saturday night. Visiting Groningen was defeated by Weert in a tough game in Weert 77-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Groningen. It looked good early as Groningen took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Weert had a 28-21 second period charge getting the lead and Groningen was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 77-83. Weert made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Groningen outrebounded Weert 42-23 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. American point guard Rahmon Fletcher (177-88, college: Green Bay, agency: Court Side) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points. Groningen - Amsterdam 91-67

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Amsterdam (1-8) was crushed on the road by second ranked Groningen (6-3) 91-67 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Amsterdam was better in third quarter 21-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Amsterdam 54-29 including a 24-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. International Jessey Voorn (193-90, agency: Court Side) chipped in 18 points and 4 steals. Groningen's coach Hakim Salem felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Center Berend Weijs (208, college: Maryland) produced 19 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Aaron Roye (185-88) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Groningen went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Zwolle. Amsterdam lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with eight games lost. Groningen will face league's leader Den Bosch on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Amsterdam will play against Leeuwarden (#6).

28-year old guard J.T. Tiller (188-G-88) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Zwolle and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9.
