Director Mvenpick-hotel loves his city and its events - Dec 21, 2012

It's the activity in his city what Wim van der Steen has in mind. The director of the Mvenpick-hotel**** in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands loves this city and uses every opportunity to make it more vivid. 'When somebody comes along and has a perfect proposal for an event in a period the city isn't that lively I am interested', Van der Steen says. And that was exactly the organisers of the Rinus de Jong Invitational did.

When the organisors told Van der Steen about this four days basketball event in 's -Hertogenbosch (December 27 till 30) Van der Steen lent them a ready ear. 'Such a great sports event, I love it.' So all 186 beds in his hotel are already booked by the teams participating, officials and other visitors of the third Invitational. And even better: hotel and organisors came to an agreement for hosting the teams and officials for the next three years.

'Basketball players are great guests, pleasant people', Van der Steen knows after he hosted a lot of teams that met 's-Hertogenbosch' top teams Nashua and EiffelTowers in European games. 'We equiped our rooms already a long time ago with king sized beds of 2.10 meters. The basketball teams appreciated that.' And later on volleybal- and fieldhockey-teams as well as cyclist found their way to the comfortable hotel. 'For us athletes are an ideal target group.'

'Rob (van der Heijden) and Roel (van de Graaf, the organisers of the Invitational) have a very attractive and good story to tell', the hotel director says. 'A great event in a low-season period. Fantastic.' He immediately mobilised his partners in the Convention Bureau Brabant to point them out the promising Invitational. In this organisation entrepreneurs, rulers and the regional Office for Tourism work together to stimulate and promote their vivacious city. 'And we don't talk about money in the first place', he emphasizes. 'It's the love for our city that brought us together. We want to strength 's-Hertogenbosch. It's a great city with a rich history and a very attractive centre. We are proud of this city, our city.'

Eredivisie Round 10: Rotterdam defeats Amsterdam in the closest game of the week - 1 day ago

28-year old guard J.T. Tiller (188-G-88) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked Zwolle and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9. He had the game-high 28 points adding three rebounds and two assists for Zwolle in his team's victory, helping them to beat Rotterdam (#6, 3-6) 86-71.
