On the first day of the Rinus de Jong Invitational Zalgiris Kaunas proved to be the favorite for winning the trophy of the Rinus de Jong Invitational in Den Bosch, the Netherlands. A tough victory in the game against BA Riga (82-75) and an easy one over hometeam EiffelTowers (88-60) placed the Lithuanians on the top of the ranking.

EiffelTowers caused one half problems for Zalgiris Kaunas (39-35), but had no chance in the second part of the game. Tomas Dimsa (195-G/F-94) and his mates speeded up the game and showed their superiority in speed, rebounding and passing.

Topscorer Zalgiris Kaunas: Tomas Dimsa 18; EiffelTowers: Mike Schilder (185-PG-94, agency: Court Side) 17.

Earlier on day one of the U20-tournament in Den Bosch Zalgiris Kaunas had more problems in beating the neighbours from Riga. The basketball academy of the Latvian capital, in fact the national U18-team, showed again to be a great school for young basketball talent. The Lithuanian powerhouse of Kaunas only beated the young Latvians, in average only 17 years old!, by routine and a more solid organisation.

Topscorer Zalgiris: Tomas Dimsa 16; Riga: Anzejs Pasecnics 17.

The biggest surprise on the first day of the Invitational was the 86-101 win of BMS Basketball on BF Belgrade, the winner in 2011 in Den Bosch. The Danish academy sent a mixture of Serbian/Montenegrian (Kastratovic, Miitro, Jukic) and Danish (Birketoft, Gyamfi, Andreasen) talent and proved another time the quick improvement of Danmark as a basketball nation.

BF Beograd got frustrated by the power of the Danish squad after it spoiled a quick lead. BMS played a great inside game, where Belgrade only could stop impressive Alexander Birketoft (10 point, 14 rebounds) and flashy Zarko Jukic by fouls. BMS got 29 chances from the foulline, Belgrade only 10! Where BF Belgrade won the second edition of the Invitational on the base of a strong desire to win, is this team of the federation of the Serbia capital more vunerable.

Topscorer BMS: Nvicebosja Mitro 22; Strahinja Micovic (201-F-92) 20.

In the evening Belgrade equalized its record by beating Canarias Basketball Academy that had to skip starplayer Wannah Baily from the startlist for the third Invitationmal. Three quarters CBA stayed in the slipstream of the Serbians, but in the final part of the game they ran away (24-9) and thus saved their chances for a place in the semi-finals.

Topscorer BF Belgrade: Nikola Pavlovic (195-F/G-93) and Nikola Majice 20; CBA: Michael Carey Jr. (196-G-93) 17.
