Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

Round 20 in Eredivisie means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Leiden where host Leiden (18-4) beat league's leader Den Bosch (18-4) 80-70 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Den Bosch. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 49-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great shooting night for Leiden especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. The best player for the winners was international Worthy de Jong (194-88, agency: R.H.Consultancy) who scored 23 points and 6 assists. Canadian forward Ross Bekkering (203-87) chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. American guard Andre Young (175-90, college: Clemson) produced 17 points and 6 assists for the guests. Leiden have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Den Bosch. Den Bosch will play next round against Den Helder K. trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Leiden will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Amsterdam on the road.
Bottom-ranked Rotterdam managed to get a second victory, breaking the eighteen-game losing streak. This time they won against fourth-ranked M.Magixx 82-72. American guard Anthony Miles (182-89, college: Lamar) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 6 assists. Matthew Otten contributed with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The former international forward Thijs Vermeulen (194-85) replied with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for M.Magixx. Rotterdam (2-19) moved-up to ninth place. M.Magixx lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with ten games lost. Rotterdam will play against higher ranked Weert (#8) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. M.Magixx will play against Zwolle (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Zwolle was also quite interesting. 6th ranked Leeuwarden (11-11) played at the court of seventh ranked Zwolle (12-11). Zwolle defeated Leeuwarden 87-77 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of Darryl Webb who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds. Sjors Poels responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Zwolle moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Den Helder K. Leeuwarden lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Zwolle will meet higher ranked M.Magixx (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leeuwarden will play against Groningen in Groningen and hope to secure a win.

Den Helder K. moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Zwolle. Amsterdam lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom. Den Helder K.'s next round opponent will be league's second-placed Den Bosch on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Amsterdam will play against the league's leader Leiden (#1).

In the last game of round 20 Weert was crushed by Groningen in Groningen 88-67.


Groningen - Weert 88-67

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Weert (8-14) was crushed on the road by third ranked Groningen (16-7) 88-67. The game was mostly controlled by Groningen. Weert was better in second period 26-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Weert to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Groningen players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The winners were led by guard Jason Dourisseau (196-83, college: Nebraska) who scored that evening 15 points and 4 assists and forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) supported him with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Groningen's coach Ivica Skelin felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds by center Antwan Carter (198, college: Longwood, agency: Court Side) did not help to save the game for Weert. Guard Bryquis Perine (190-88, college: Green Bay, agency: Court Side) added 27 points for the guests. Groningen have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 16-7 record having just one points less than leader Leiden. Weert at the other side keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost. Groningen's next round opponent will be Leeuwarden (#7) on the road. Weert will play against Rotterdam and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Zwolle - Leeuwarden 87-77

The game in Zwolle was also quite interesting. 6th ranked Leeuwarden (11-11) played at the court of seventh ranked Zwolle (12-11). Zwolle defeated Leeuwarden 87-77 on Sunday. Leeuwarden was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Zwolle made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Zwolle outrebounded Leeuwarden 38-26 including 23 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Darryl Webb (198-88, college: Indiana, PA, agency: Pro One Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds and the other American import guard Tanner Smith (195-90, college: Clemson) who added 19 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Center Sjors Poels (209-86, agency: R.H.Consultancy) responded with 16 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) and naturalized Dominican point guard Tjoe de Paula (185-81, agency: Court Side) scored 16 points.
