Defending champions Probuild Lions seem to have gotten themselves out of the slump they were in around christmas. Displaying determined defense and sometimes sizzling offense they beat De Wit Grasshoppers 99-64.
Allthough De Wit Grasshoppers came off an impressive win versus Lekdetec , they were virtually without chance for most of the game versus Probuild Lions who seem to be back on track. After both teams opened in a level game (9-9) it was Molly McDowell (178-G-81, college: S.Illinois) who forgot her jittery legs before the game and connected on three back-to-back-to-back threys. The defending champions opened the first gap like that going for 23-13 after which the first quarter ended at 30-17. It was a gap that De Wit Grasshoppers tried to close in the second quarter. Quick hands of Marlous Nieuwveen and Nathalie van den Adel managed to close the difference a little going into the break 40-31.
After the break the game quickly was put away by Probuild. The hometeam went on a 13-0 run that broke the resistance from Katwijk bound Grasshoppers. Nothing seemed to help Katwijk coach Ivo Boom who switched defenses and players but Grasshoppers kept on producing turnovers and missed shots en route to a 68-45 score at the third intermission.
The final stanza was for statistics mostly, as Probuild tried to reach triple digits for the game but they failed allthough Beau Baars had 8 points in 10 minutes and Nina Burgert managed her first points in the league. Probuild Lions: McDowell 31 points , 4 rebounds; Bussey 18 poiunts; Hartman 15 points 6 steals 4 assists 4 rebounds; De Wit Grasshoppers: Nathalie v.d. Adel 20 points; Nieuwveen 12 points 5 rebounds; Fleur Kuijt 12 points; Sonja Kuijt 12 points.
