Here is the weekly review of the top performing Dutch players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international center Francisco Elson (211-76, agency: Veracity Sports, LLC, college: California, currently plays in Iran). Elson contributed to Mahram's victory against the closely-ranked Foolad Mahan (15-3) 73-63 in the Iranian Superleague on Friday night. He scored 6 points, had 7 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 39 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Mahram Tehran (14-3) is placed third in the Superleague. Elson is currently seventh on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). This year he averages: 8.4ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.1bpg, 2.4spg in the seven games he played so far. Elson is currently a member of the Dutch senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Henk Norel (214-87, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB. He could not help CAI Zaragoza (13-10) to beat Blusens Monbus (11-12). Norel scored 7 points. CAI Zaragoza was defeated 72-64 on the road by the lower-ranked Blusens Monbus (#10). Norel belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #6. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.1ppg, 6.3rpg, 2FGP: 58.6%(123-210) and FT: 54.1%. Norel is in the roster of the Dutch senior national team.

   #3. The Dutch player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Robin Smeulders (207-87, agency: Court Side, college: Portland, currently plays in Germany). He managed to help EWE Baskets Oldenburg in a victory against the seventh-ranked Artland Dragons (13-12) 84-68 in the German BBL last Saturday. Smeulders recorded 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 12 minutes. EWE Baskets Oldenburg (16-7) is placed third in the BBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Smeulders' overall stats are: 6.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 2FGP: 57.6%(53-92) and FT: 72.4% in the 23 games. He has a dual citizenship: Dutch and German. Smeulders is also a member of the Dutch senior national team.

Power forward Roeland Schaftenaar (211-88, college: Oregon St., currently plays in Spain) led Leche Rio Breogan to a victory against the league outsider Melilla Baloncesto (4-17) 93-80 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Saturday night. He scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Leche Rio Breogan Lugo (11-9) is placed fifth in the LEB Gold. It's Schaftenaar's first season with the team. Schaftenaar's total stats this year are: 6.9ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.7apg. He used to play for the Dutch national team back in 2010.

Former U16 international forward Kevin van Wijk (203-89, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay (9-6) 75-56 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. van Wijk recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 21 minutes. The Valparaiso University has a very solid 12-3 conference record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. This year van Wijk's total stats are: 6.9ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.7apg in the 19 games. He used to play for the Dutch U16 national team eight years ago.

   #6. Forward Kadeem Pantophlet (201-90, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to help the Duquesne (1-13) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Pantophlet's good performance the Duquesne was edged in an overtime 89-87 at home by the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. He scored 12 points. Pantophlet's team will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Pantophlet has averaged so far 6.9ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.7apg. He is a former U20 international player as he played for the Dutch team four years ago.

Former U20 international center Thomas van der Mars (208-90, is currently at the American university) was not able to secure a victory for the Portland (4-13) in their game against the Loyola Marymount University (3-15) in the NCAA. van der Mars scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. The Portland lost 54-65 on their home court in Portland, OR to the Loyola Marymount University. It was Portland's third consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. van der Mars has averaged so far 6.9ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.7apg in the 19 games. He used to play for the Dutch U20 national team three years ago.

   #8. Center Jito Kok (206-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an San Diego's victory against the Pepperdine University (4-13) 76-69 in the NCAA last Saturday. Kok recorded 6 points in 26 minutes. The University of San Diego has 8-9 conference record this season. His team will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Kok is the league's best blocker with 0.3bpg. This year he also averages: 7.3ppg and 4.8rpg in the 21 games. Kok plays currently for the Dutch U18 national team.

He used to play for the Dutch U18 national team two years ago.

Point guard Charlon Kloof (190-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the University of North Carolina - Charlotte (7-8) crushing them 104-83 in the NCAA last Saturday. Kloof recorded only 3 points. The St.Bonaventure University has 7-8 conference record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. Kloof has averaged so far 7.3ppg and 4.8rpg. He is a former U20 international player as three years ago he still played for the Dutch national team.

   #11. U18 international forward Shane Hammink (201-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the LSU in their game against the University of Missouri in the NCAA. Hammink cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 2 points in 12 minutes. His team lost 76-89. Hammink has averaged so far 7.3ppg and 4.8rpg in the 21 games. He is a naturalized American. Hammink plays currently for the Dutch U18 national team. Strangely he has never played in Holland.

   #12. Former international center Robert Krabbendam (213-86, also represented by Court Side, college: Virginia Tech, currently plays in Cyprus) contributed to Apollon's victory against the closely-ranked Apoel 83-79 in the Cypriot Division A in Friday night's game. Krabbendam scored 5 points. Krabbendam has averaged so far 4.9ppg and 3.2rpg. He used to play for the Dutch national team back in 2010.


The list of other players, who all have Dutch passport but never been selected to any of Dutch national teams:

   #1. Daniel Kickert (208-C/F-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in Ukraine) led Budivelnyk to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Azovmash (22-11) 97-78 in the Ukrainian Superleague in Friday night's game. He recorded 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 23 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Budivelnyk Kyiv (26-8) is placed first in the Superleague. Kickert has relatively good stats this year: 13.0ppg and 5.5rpg in the two games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Australian and Dutch.

   #2. Kim Tillie (210-PF-88, agency: Priority Sports, college: Utah, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB could not help UCAM Murcia (24-6) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Tillie's very good performance his team was badly defeated 86-69 on the road by the leading Real Madrid. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Tillie also added 6 rebounds. This season Tillie averages: 8.3ppg and 3.7rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Dutch and French.

   #3. Josh Duinker (210-F/C-89, college: Richmond, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Caceres Basket's victory against the closely-ranked FCB Regal II (9-12) 85-71 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Friday night's game. Duinker scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Caceres Basket (9-12) is placed ninth in the LEB Gold. Duinker has averaged so far 7.3ppg and 4.8rpg. He has both Australian and Dutch nationalities.

   #4. Joey van Zegeren McAdam (208-F-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to help the Virginia Tech (4-13) in their game against the Duke University (13-4) in the NCAA. He recorded only 4 points. The Virginia Tech was crushed 85-57 in Durham, NC by the Duke University. van Zegeren McAdam's team will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And that game will be critical. van Zegeren McAdam has averaged so far 7.3ppg and 4.8rpg.

Maxxcom BS Weert (Eredivisie) landed 23-year old power forward Matthew Van Tongeren (202-93) from Rotterdam Challengers. The previous (13-14) season Van Tongeren played at Matrixx Magixx Wijchen where in 20 Eredivisie games he averaged just 2.8ppg and 1.6rpg.
