Here is the weekly review of the top performing Dutch players, who play currently abroad.


Josh Duinker

   #1. This week's number one is former international power forward Josh Duinker (209-89, college: Richmond, currently plays in Uruguay). He was the major contributor in Defensor's victory against the eighth-ranked Trouville (2-6) 92-83 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB in Friday night's game. Duinker scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 30 minutes on the court. Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo (3-6) is placed seventh in Promocional 1 group. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. It's Duinker's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 14.3ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 56.4%(57-101) and FT: 78.0% in 12 games he played so far. Duinker has a dual citizenship: Dutch and Australian. Former Zorg and Zekerheid Leiden starter played for the Dutch senior national team four years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Thomas van der Mars (208-90, college: Portland, currently plays in Estonia). van der Mars could not help Rapla (9-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance Rapla lost 63-70 at home to the lower-ranked (#6) TLU/Kalev. van der Mars had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 15 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was Rapla's third consecutive loss in a row. van der Mars has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 19.1ppg, 14.3rpg, 1.1bpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 63.8%(104-163) and FT: 69.4% in 14 games. van der Mars is in the roster of the Dutch senior national team.

   #3. The Dutch player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Jeroen van der List (213-89, college: Indian Hills CC, currently plays in Japan). He was not able to help Shinshu BW in their game against Dragonflies (28-6) in the Japanese B League D2. Despite his very good performance on Sunday night van der List recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 16 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. This season van der List has very high stats. He averages: 19.7ppg, 10.7rpg, 1.8bpg, 2FGP: 51.1%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 66.7%. van der List played for the Dutch national team three years ago.

   #4. Guard Yannick Franke (194-96, currently plays in ABA League) led his Croatian team KK Zadar to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Mornar Bar (7-15) 80-62 in the ABA League in Friday night's game. He recorded 11 points in a mere 17 minutes. KK Zadar (7-15) is located at the very bottom in the ABA League. But the situation may improve as they ended a series of six consecutive loses. There are only four games left until the end of the ABA League Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Franke's overall stats are: 7.0ppg, 3.0rpg and 2.0apg in two games. He is also Dutch national team player.

   #5. International shooting guard Worthy de Jong (194-88, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams SO Maritime Boulogne (6-12) in their game against SPO Rouen (7-11) in the French ProB (second division). Despite his very good performance last Friday de Jong scored 16 points. de Jong's total stats this season are: 9.9ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.2apg and 1.5spg. He plays currently for the Dutch national team.

Center Nicolas de Jong (210-88, currently plays in France) couldn't help Chalons-Reims (7-11) in their game against Sluc Nancy (4-15) in the French ProA, despite his good performance on Saturday night. de Jong scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 24 minutes. But Chalons-Reims lost 80-89 on the road to the league outsider (#18) Sluc Nancy. This year de Jong has relatively solid stats: 12.2ppg and 2.7rpg in 18 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Dutch National Team roster.

   #7. Former international guard Shane Hammink (201-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Valparaiso to an easy victory against the Cleveland State University (1-1) crushing them 78-57 in the NCAA in Thursday night's game. He scored 15 points and added 4 assists in 27 minutes. The Valparaiso University has a very good 6-1 conference record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Hammink has very impressive stats this year: 15.4ppg, 3.8rpg and 2.8apg in 24 games. He used to play for the Dutch national team three years ago.

Forward Kevin van Wijk (203-89, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in Spain) led Melilla Baloncesto to a 3-point victory against the closely-ranked Ourense (12-10) 80-77 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Friday night. He recorded 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 34 minutes. Melilla Baloncesto (13-9) is placed seventh in the LEB Gold. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year van Wijk's total stats are: 6.5ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.3apg in 22 games. He used to play for the Dutch U16 national team back in 2005.

International power forward Roeland Schaftenaar (211-88, college: Oregon St., currently plays in Greece) managed to help A.G.O Rethymno Aegean in a victory against one of league's weakest teams Apollon Patras (4-12) 71-56 in the Greek A1 last Saturday. Schaftenaar recorded only 4 points in 6 minutes on the court. A.G.O Rethymno Aegean (7-9) is placed seventh in the A1. They ended the series of four consecutive loses. Schaftenaar has averaged so far 5.7ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.3apg in six games. He is also in the roster of the Dutch national team.

   #10. Point guard Leon Williams (189-91, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help BG Goettingen (13-3) in their game against Giessen 46ers (10-10) in the German BBL. Williams scored 5 points. BG Goettingen was defeated 79-72 in Giessen by the lower-ranked 46ers (#8). Williams has averaged so far 5.6ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.3apg. He is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Dutch senior national team.

   #11. Former U20 international center Jito Kok (206-94, agency: Court Side, college: San Diego, currently plays in Estonia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Thomas van der Mars and both played together in the last Estonian Alexela KML game. Kok couldn't help Rapla in their game against TLU/Kalev. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Kok recorded only 2 points. It was his first game for Rapla this season. His team was defeated 70-63. Kok used to play for the Dutch U20 national team three years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Julius van Sauers (203-95, currently studies in the States) couldn't help the LIU Brooklyn in their game against the St.Francis University (PA) in the NCAA. Despite his good performance in Saturday night's game He scored 11 points. van Sauers has averaged so far 2.6ppg and 2.8rpg. He used to play for the Dutch national team back in 2014.

   #13. Former U20 international center Menno Dijkstra (213-97, is currently at the American university) led Cal-Riverside to a victory against the Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo 67-56 in the NCAA last Saturday. Dijkstra scored 11 points in a mere 16 minutes. Dijkstra has averaged so far 4.6ppg and 2.3rpg in 22 games. He used to play for the Dutch U20 national team two years ago.

   #14. Former international center Kevin Bleeker (208-93, also represented by Court Side, college: Canisius, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Navarra in their game against L'Hospitalet in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Bleeker recorded 8 points. His team was defeated 85-77. Bleeker has averaged so far 5.7ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Dutch national team back in 2014.

   #15. Former U20 international center Tom Koopman (203, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Citadel in their game against the East Tennessee State University in the NCAA, despite his good performance on Thursday night. Koopman scored 10 points in 15 minutes. But his team was crushed by 21 points 90-69. Koopman has averaged so far 2.9ppg and 1.8rpg in 24 games. He used to play for the Dutch U20 national team two years ago.

   #1. Aaron Doornekamp (201-F-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an CB Canarias' victory against one of league's weakest teams Joventut (5-14) 89-75 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Sunday. He scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Iberostar Tenerife CB Canarias (15-4) is placed second in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. This season Doornekamp has relatively solid stats: 12.7ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.4apg. He has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Dutch.

   #2. Kim Tillie (210-PF-88, college: Utah, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Baskonia's victory against the closely-ranked Andorra (10-9) 91-82 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. Tillie scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 26 minutes. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (13-6) is placed fifth in the Liga Endesa. This year Tillie averages: 7.4ppg and 3.4rpg in 17 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Dutch and French.

   #3. Ryan Broekhoff (200-F-90, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to Lokomotiv's victory against the tenth-ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod (4-10) 88-75 in the VTB United League in Saturday night's game. Broekhoff scored 8 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Lokomotiv Kuban (12-2) is placed second in the VTB United League. It was his team's 12th consecutive victory in a row. This season Broekhoff averages: 7.4ppg and 5.5rpg. He has both Australian and Dutch nationalities.

   #4. Devon Van Oostrum (190-G-93, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in ABA League) led his FYR Macedonian team MZT Skopje to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked Un.Olimpija (9-12) 91-72 in the ABA League in Sunday night's game. Van Oostrum scored 15 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists. KK MZT Skopje Aerodrom (7-14) is placed 12th in the ABA League. Van Oostrum's total stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.0apg. He also holds two passports: British and Dutch.

   #5. Experienced Daniel Kickert (208-C/F-83, college: St.Mary's, CA, currently plays in Australia). Kickert could not help Bullets (10-17) to beat Perth Wildcats (14-13). He scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 21 minutes. But the bottom-ranked Bullets were crushed 94-63 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) Perth Wildcats. Kickert's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Kickert has reliable stats this year: 13.1ppg, 4.1rpg and 2.2apg in 27 games. He holds both Dutch and Australian passports.

   #6. Emmanuel Nzekwesi (203-F, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to help the ORU (1-3) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Nzekwesi's very good performance the ORU was defeated 74-67 at home by the South Dakota State University. He recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 11 rebounds. Nzekwesi also added and 3 steals. Nzekwesi's total stats this season are: 9.7ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.2apg.

   #7. Joey van Zegeren (208-F-90, college: Northwestern, currently plays in Germany) contributed to Gladiators' victory against the 11th-ranked Chemnitz 71-58 in the German ProA (second division) last Friday. van Zegeren scored 7 points, had 4 rebounds and made 3 blocks. van Zegeren's total stats this season are: 6.5ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.3bpg.

   #8. Tom Slutsky (193-G-92, currently plays in Israel) led Hapoel Afula to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Hap.Haifa 85-66 in the Israeli National League (second division) in Tuesday night's game. Slutsky scored 15 points. This season Slutsky averages only 4.3ppg. He has dual citizenship: Dutch and Israeli. Despite Slutsky's Dutch passport, he previously played for the Israeli U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Dutch team.

   #9. Derrik Smits (218-C-95, currently studies in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Cleveland State University crushing them 78-57 in the NCAA in Thursday night's game. Smits scored 10 points and added 5 assists in 22 minutes. Smits has averaged so far 3.3ppg and 2.0rpg in 24 games.

   #10. Shaquille Doorson (213-C-94, is currently at the American university) was not able to secure a victory for the Rutgers in their game against the Ohio State University in the NCAA. He recorded 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 16 minutes. His team lost 64-70. Doorson has averaged so far 1.2ppg and 1.5rpg in 23 games.   




Henk Norel
Henk Norel leaves Zaragoza - 1 day ago
30-year old Dutch center Henk Norel (213-87) left Tecnyconta Zaragoza (Liga Endesa). Norel has played there for the last five years. In 29 Liga Endesa games in Spain he recorded 10.2ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.1apg. In 2009 Norel was drafted by Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA) in second round (47th overall). Among other achievements his team made it to the Spanish ACB Supercup Final Four in 2013. Norel received also Eurobasket.com All-Spanish ACB 3rd Team award back in 2013. Rotterdam Challengers (Eredivisie) re-signed 32-year old former international swingman Ties Theeuwkens (191-85, agency: Court Side). He has played there for the last three seasons. In 24 Eredivisie games he averaged 8.4ppg, 3.3rpg and 2.0apg last season. Among other achievements Theeuwkens' team made it to the Eredivisie Semifinals for three years in a row (between 2012 and 2014). Oostende lands Chase Fieler, ex Groningen - 6 days ago
Defending champion Telenet BC Oostende (Euromillions League) tabbed 25-year old American forward Chase Fieler (203-93kg-92, college: FGCU). He has played for the last two years at Donar Groningen in Dutch Eredivisie. Fieler managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). In 35 Eredivisie games he averaged 15.0ppg, 7.5rpg, 3.0apg, 1.5spg and 1.4bpg. He helped them to win the league title (twice) and the Supercup (also twice).
