Peter Lorant fights for ACB - May 27, 2010

Peter Lorant
The surprise team of the 2009-2010 Leb Oro season in Spain is without doubt the Autocid Ford Burgos. They got into the great final of the playoff by reaching the biggest success of the clubs history. Peter Lorant (207-F/C-85), who is a Hungary Slection, grew into an emblematic figure of the team, as this has been is fourth season in the Ford team. The eurobasket.com interviewed him in relation to the final.
Eurobasket.com: Would you have thought in the beginning of the season, that you will still be staying in Spain at the end May?
Pter Lrnt: Only as a tourist. But to put jokes aside, before the season, our goal was to safely get into the playoff. In the fall, we were leading the table, finally we got fifth place by the end of the basic session. Although we had the chance for a more favorable position for a long time, now we are not at all sad that it turned out this way.
Eurobasket.com: You were there four years ago, when your team was fighting against drop-out, now you are fighting to go up. What has changed?
P.L.: I became a member of Burgos on the 3rd of January 2006, when I was barely 21 years old. As a member of the Benetton Treviso family, I had the chance to get to know European professional basketball from the start. Over the summers, I was training with the supervision of Ettore Messina, in Italy. Then I spent a year in Belgium. Despite all that, I can state that I became a ready player in Burgos. I am proud that my achievements developed along with the teams, year after year. We got a little further in each season, perhaps we have skipped a few steps this year, but no one cares about that now.
Eurobasket.com: Whats the secret of your success?
P.L.: At the end of the basic session, all teams wanted to have us as opponent in the playoff. They felt that it could be the easiest to step over the Burgos. Well, as the example shows, it was not true. Its a commonplace, but great players form the guard, there is a good accord between the American and the Spanish core. When you start playing from the bench, anyone is able to so to say- push the common wagon. Perhaps this can be the key. I have a great contact with Coach Andreu Casadevall, we have been working together for almost 3 years. For me this is also very important, to be able to feel the confidence form the edge of the field.
Eurobasket.com: What are your changes regarding the final?
P.L.: Clearly, we are the black horse of the season. Menorca fell out of the ACB league exactly at this time last year. They have the advantage of the field; this in itself is a big benefit. Our opponent is a great team, it is represented by excellent players. It will be a great experience to play against them. It is sure that the burden is not on our shoulders. Our team is mentally ready and we are hungry for success.
Eurobasket.com: What will happen after the final?
P.L.: I would like to take a rest, as in the last 11 months, I only had a holiday twice for four days each. Last summer we got first place in the group of the Europen Championship Qualification matches with the Hungary Selection. [During the qualifying matches, Pter helped the Hungary Selection with impressiv averaging 14,5 pts,8,1 rebounds per game. - The editor] In the same time, I cant wait to be at home in the Selection again with the guys, a young team is forming there in good mood. Our little country had the chance to take part in the European Championship in 1999 for the last time, we would like to change that in the near future. On the club level I am also searching for new challenges, based on where I can develop more. I love Spain, I learned the language, I got to know the culture. Like probably many of Leb Oro player mates, the goal for me is to be able to challenge myself in the ACB league. I feel that Im ready for it, the rest doesnt depend on me.
