It was published today that Hungarian big man, Akos Keller (208-F/C-89, agency: Laszlo Vinko Group) has reached a verbal agreement for a one year extension with Albacomp-UPC Szekesfehervar, which means he will begin his 6th season with the top Hungarian team.
The 23 year old Akos Keller had a breakout season last year averaging 11.0ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.3spg and 1.4bpg (FGP: 61.0%, 3PT: 20.0%, FT: 61.1%) as a starter for Albacomp-UPC Szekesfehervar. He had his best performances in the season on the 7th of March against Hungarian powerhouse Szolnok when he had 24 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocked shots and helped his team to a much needed away win.
As one of the most promising big mans in Hungary he got a summer training camp invite from the Phoenix Suns and looked forward to a key role in the Hungarian National team but after he got diagnosed with a cartilage tear he had to leave the training camp of the National Team and undergo an arthroscopic surgery.
"We had strong interest from 3 teams from France top division, 3 other teams from Italian second division were also interested in him. We were in talks with a team from Greece top division and we very close with a Serbian, Adriatic League participant team..." - published the agent of Akos, Laszlo Vinko on his website. "But taking in consideration our short and long term plans the best and safest decision for Akos Keller was to stay home, take his time with the rehabilitation and develop another year with Albacomp-UPC Szekesfehervar where he is expected to get a key role on the team. Our goal and focus right now is to be ready to go back next year to the Phoenix Suns training camp."
