Copeland's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - Oct 22, 2012

28-year old point guard Donald Copeland (177-PG-84) had a great game in the last round for ZTE KK and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4.
He got a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists, while his team beat Kormend (1-3) 101-92. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. ZTE KK is placed at 9th position in Hungarian league. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 3 games and recorded just one victory. Copeland turned to be ZTE KK's top player in his first season with the team.

Second best performed player last round was Zvonko Buljan (206-F-87) of Kormend. He is Croatian forward in his first season at Kormend. In the last game Buljan recorded impressive double-double of 31 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Kormend lost that game 92-101 to slightly higher-ranked ZTE KK (1-3). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Kormend dropped in the standings to 11th position. 3 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Kormend managed to get this year. Buljan is a newcomer at Kormend and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 24.7ppg (#1). He also registered 6.7 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Laszlo Polyak (190-G-93) of Marso NYKK (#10). Polyak showcased his all-around game by recording 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the last round. Despite Polyak's great performance Marso NYKK lost 65-78 to the higher-ranked Kaposvari (#4, 3-1). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Marso NYKK can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-3 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Polyak he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Polyak has a very solid season. In 2 games in Hungary he scored 15.5ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Sean Carter (205-F/C-88) of FS Debrecen - 18 points and 14 rebounds
5. Brad Loesing (182-G-89) of PVSK Pannon - 21 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists
6. David Gaspar (196-SF-82) of ZTE KK - 18 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Michael Fey (213-F/C-83) of Falco-Szova - 21 points and 6 rebounds
8. Christopher Dunn (189-PG-83) of Kaposvari - 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Filip Barovic (208-F/C-90) of Soproni - 12 points and 11 rebounds
10. Ronald Moore (183-PG-88) of Albacomp - 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Smith Jr.'s double-double lands him (Second Stage) Player of the Week award - 1 day ago
25-year old guard Lenzelle Smith Jr. (193-G-91) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Kormend and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8 (Second Stage). He had a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds, while his team outclassed Szolnok (#5, 19-14) with 28-point margin 109-81. Kormend maintains the 2nd position in Hungarian league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier in Second Stage. Kormend...   [read more]

A Division Round 8 (Second Stage): ZTE KK defeats leader Alba - 2 days ago
There are only two more rounds left in the Second Stage in A Division. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Alba (23-9) in Zalaegerszeg on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked ZTE KK (22-11) 88-76. The game was mostly controlled by ZTE KK. Alba managed to win third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American-Puerto Rican point guard Emanuel Ubilla (188...   [read more]

Adam Hanga selected the top Hungarian playing abroad in last week's games - 3 days ago
Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Hungarians who are currently playing abroad. This week's number one is an international small forward Adam Hanga (199-89, agency: Octagon Europe). He could not help Baskonia (17-13) in their last game. Despite Hanga's good performance Baskonia was edged 90-88 at home by the second-ranked CSKA.    [read more]
