Iceland recorded two victories in four games played at the 2012 Nordic Championship. The tournament is being held these days in Oslo, Norway.
Iceland opened their campaign against the hosts. The Icelandic team dominated from start to finish posting an 82:55 win at the end. Helena Sverrisdottir (185-F/G-88, college: TCU) provided 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Hildur Sigurdardottir (178-G-81) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Iceland. Kristina Tattersdill (185-F/C-83) answered with 14 points for Norway. Gronas had 12 points in the loss.
Next Iceland faced Swedish counterparts. Sweden tipped off the game strongly building a 42:24 halftime lead. They never looked back again posting an 80:45 victory at the end. Frida Eldebrink (174-G-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 17 points to lead Sweden. Frida Aili (179-G-88) contributed 16 points in the win. Helena Sverrisdottir replied with 14 points for Iceland.
Iceland recovered in the third round as they took on Denmark. The Icelandic team registered a 72:67 victory. Helena Sverrisdottir was unstoppable with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Maria Ben Erlingsdottir (187-C-88, college: UTPA) added 11 points for Iceland as they improved at 2-1 record. Sussie Kruuse (191-C-83) had 21 points and 8 rebounds for Denmark. Tea Jorgensen (177-F-87) netted 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the loss.
Iceland then had to yield against Finland. Finland grabbed a narrow 83:80 victory over Iceland. The latter took 27:15 in the first period, but then Finland won the rest of the quarters. Taru Tuukkanen (190-C-77, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Xavier) led the winners with 24 points and Laura Wilson (184-SG-84, agency: LBM Management, college: Binghamton) posted 10. Helena Sverrisdottir erupted with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in defeat and Maria Ben Erlingsdottir followed her with 15.

Grindavik keeps Kristinardottir for another season - 7 days ago
U.M.F. Grindavik (D1) re-signed 22-year old international guard Ingunn Kristinardottir (170-95). She has played there for the last two seasons. In 26 Dominos League games she averaged 10.1ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.1apg and 1.6spg last season. D1 will be definitely a better match and she can see more playing time. Snaefell (Dominos League) tabbed 27-year old American swingman Kristen McCarthy (182-90, college: Temple). It is actually her comeback to Stykkisholmur as she has played here before. McCarthy played most recently at Eisvogel USC Freiburg in German DBBL. She managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). In 19 DBBL games she was third best scorer with impressive 16.2ppg and recorded 5.2rpg (#4 in the league), 2.3apg and 2.3spg (in top 2). Keflavik signs Dinkins just out of college - 17 days ago
Keflavik (Dominos League) signed 23-year old American guard Brittanny Dinkins (170-94). She just graduated from S.Mississippi (NCAA). Dinkins has played there for the last four years. In 33 games she had very impressive stats: 18.6ppg, 4.1rpg, 3.8apg and 3.1spg last season. She helped them to make it to the final.
