Iceland recorded two victories in four games played at the 2012 Nordic Championship. The tournament is being held these days in Oslo, Norway. Iceland opened their campaign against the hosts. The Icelandic team dominated from start to finish posting an 82:55 win at the end. Helena Sverrisdottir (185-F/G-88, college: TCU) provided 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Hildur Sigurdardottir (178-G-81) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Iceland. Kristina Tattersdill (185-F/C-83) answered with 14 points for Norway. Gronas had 12 points in the loss. Next Iceland faced Swedish counterparts. Sweden tipped off the game strongly building a 42:24 halftime lead. They never looked back again posting an 80:45 victory at the end. Frida Eldebrink (174-G-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 17 points to lead Sweden. Frida Aili (179-G-88) contributed 16 points in the win. Helena Sverrisdottir replied with 14 points for Iceland. Iceland recovered in the third round as they took on Denmark. The Icelandic team registered a 72:67 victory. Helena Sverrisdottir was unstoppable with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Maria Ben Erlingsdottir (187-C-88, college: UTPA) added 11 points for Iceland as they improved at 2-1 record. Sussie Kruuse (191-C-83) had 21 points and 8 rebounds for Denmark. Tea Jorgensen (177-F-87) netted 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the loss. Iceland then had to yield against Finland. Finland grabbed a narrow 83:80 victory over Iceland. The latter took 27:15 in the first period, but then Finland won the rest of the quarters. Taru Tuukkanen (190-C-77, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Xavier) led the winners with 24 points and Laura Wilson (184-SG-84, agency: LBM Management, college: Binghamton) posted 10. Helena Sverrisdottir erupted with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in defeat and Maria Ben Erlingsdottir followed her with 15.

Arkansas Stingers tabbed 29-year old guard Crystal Boyd (180-87, college: New Mexico State). She spent her 1-year professional career in. She has played for the last one years at U.M.F. Grindavik in Icelandic Dominos League. Boyd missed last season and had one year break from professional basketball. Boyd was selected to Icelandic League All-Star Game back in 2011. She is a very experienced player. Boyd graduated from New Mexico State in 2010 and it will be her seventh season in pro basketball.
