Iceland recorded two victories in four games played at the 2012 Nordic Championship. The tournament is being held these days in Oslo, Norway.
Iceland opened their campaign against the hosts. The Icelandic team dominated from start to finish posting an 82:55 win at the end. Helena Sverrisdottir (185-F/G-88, college: TCU) provided 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Hildur Sigurdardottir (178-G-81) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Iceland. Kristina Tattersdill (185-F/C-83) answered with 14 points for Norway. Gronas had 12 points in the loss.
Next Iceland faced Swedish counterparts. Sweden tipped off the game strongly building a 42:24 halftime lead. They never looked back again posting an 80:45 victory at the end. Frida Eldebrink (174-G-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 17 points to lead Sweden. Frida Aili (179-G-88) contributed 16 points in the win. Helena Sverrisdottir replied with 14 points for Iceland.
Iceland recovered in the third round as they took on Denmark. The Icelandic team registered a 72:67 victory. Helena Sverrisdottir was unstoppable with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Maria Ben Erlingsdottir (187-C-88, college: UTPA) added 11 points for Iceland as they improved at 2-1 record. Sussie Kruuse (191-C-83) had 21 points and 8 rebounds for Denmark. Tea Jorgensen (177-F-87) netted 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the loss.
Iceland then had to yield against Finland. Finland grabbed a narrow 83:80 victory over Iceland. The latter took 27:15 in the first period, but then Finland won the rest of the quarters. Taru Tuukkanen (190-C-77, agency: Regeneracom Sports, college: Xavier) led the winners with 24 points and Laura Wilson (184-SG-84, agency: LBM Management, college: Binghamton) posted 10. Helena Sverrisdottir erupted with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in defeat and Maria Ben Erlingsdottir followed her with 15.

Breidablik Kopavogur (Dominos League) agreed terms with 24-year old American guard Rickell Preston (178-93, college: UTRGV). She played most recently at Sumadija Kragujevac in Serbian 1 ZLS, but left the team in Nov.'16. In 6 games she had 7.8ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.0apg and 2.5spg last season. Preston played in the final of WAC Tournament. She graduated from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2016 and actually missed last season. It will be her second season as a professional player. Haukar signs Cherise Daniel, ex Atomeromu - 10 days ago
Haukar (Dominos League) signed 30-year old American guard Cherise Daniel (180-87, college: Ohio State). She played last season at Atomeromu in Hungarian A Division. In 13 games she had 8.7ppg, 2.6rpg, 1.5apg and 1.2spg. Daniel helped them to win the regular season and make it to the final. She also played that season for Sirius Targu Mures in Romanian Liga Nationala where in 18 games she recorded very impressive stats: 18.9ppg, 5.5rpg, 3.3apg and 1.3spg. U.M.F. Njardvik (Dominos League) landed 23-year old American forward Erika Williams (183-94). She just graduated from CSU Bakersfield (NCAA). Williams has played there for the last five years. In 27 games she averaged 12.3ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.4apg and 1.1spg last season. She helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in Western Athletic Conference.
