Slovak Republic posted the first win at the 2013 EuroBasket Qualification. They snatched a narrow road loss over Iceland in Reykjavik. Anton Gavel (188-PG-84, agency: Pro One Sports) exploded with 35 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds to pace the visitors. Both teams are now tied at 1-6 record in Group A.
Iceland started strongly. They accumulated a 25:18 lead after ten minutes. Slovak Republic reacted with 31 points in the second frame to snatch a 49:47 halftime lead. The tempo decreased in the third term. The teams exchanged baskets as Slovak Republic ensured a two-point lead before the final frame. The lead changed hands for several times throughout the fourth stanza. However Anton Gavel and Michal Batka (204-PF-87) delivered when it mattered the most to seal the victory for Slovak Republic. Dusan Pandula (197-SF-84) notched 17 points, while Michal Batka added 11 points for the winning team. Hlynur Baeringsson (197-F-82) answered with 21 points and 12 rebounds for Iceland. Jon Stefansson (196-G-82) posted 20 points in the loss.

He played last season at Basketball Loewen Braunschweig in German BBL league. In 34 games he had 7.8ppg and 4.2rpg.
