The most exciting game of round 9 in the Express L. took place in Reykjavik. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Valur (5-4) to fourth ranked KR (6-3) 65-64 in the game for the third place. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. KR outrebounded Valur 48-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American guard Patechia Hartman (170-83, college: Georgia St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) who saved her team from a defeat with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Helga Einarsdottir (186-88) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Kristrun Sigurjonsdottir (176-85) answered with 25 points and 7 rebounds for Valur. Valur's coach Agust Bjorgvinsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. KR moved-up to third place. Valur at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. KR are looking forward to face league's leader Keflavik on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Valur's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik Fjolnir.
Express L. top team - Keflavik (9-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Grindavik (2-7) 71-65. The former international forward Birna Valgardsdottir (181-76) stepped up and scored 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Jessica Jenkins chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Crystal Smith (168-84, college: Iowa) with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Undefeated Keflavik have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Newly promoted Grindavik keeps the seventh position with seven games lost. Keflavik will play against KR (#3) in Reykjavik in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Grindavik will play on the road against Njardvik (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Hafnarfjordur was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Njardvik (3-6) played at the court of sixth ranked Haukar (3-6). Haukar managed to secure a 9-point victory 72-63 on Wednesday. Haukar will meet league's second-placed Snaefell in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Njardvik will play against Grindavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Snaefell maintains second place with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Keflavik. Fjolnir lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Snaefell's next round opponent will be Haukar (#5) in Hafnarfjordur. Fjolnir's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena Valur.



Haukar - Njardvik 72-63

The game in Hafnarfjordur was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Njardvik (3-6) played at the court of sixth ranked Haukar (3-6). Haukar managed to secure a 9-point victory 72-63 on Wednesday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 18-8. But Njardvik won third quarter 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar held Njardvik to an opponent 24.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.1 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Njardvik 56-42 including a 43-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. American swingman Siarre Evans (178-88, college: E.Tenn.St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points and 19 rebounds for the winning side and guard Gunnhildur Gunnarsdottir (175-90) accounted for 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. American Lele Hardy (182-88, college: Clemson, agency: Merit Sports) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks and center Salbjorg Saevarsdottir (182-91) added 15 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks respectively for Njardvik in the defeat. The game in Reykjavik supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Snaefell (7-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Fjolnir (1-8). Snaefell smashed Fjolnir 82-47. The game without a history. Snaefell led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Snaefell forced 21 Fjolnir turnovers and outrebounded them 54-37 including 17 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Fjolnir's players. The best player for the winners was American forward Kieraah Marlow (178-85) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international guard Hildur Sigurdardottir (178-81) chipped in 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Snaefell players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Britney Jones (172-87, college: UAB) who recorded 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international forward Fanney Gudmundsdottir (179-89) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively.
