Grindavik (3-7) outlasted Njardvik (3-7) in overtime by seven points 79-72 on Wednesday night. The game took place in Njardvik. But the guests from Grindavik were better at the end. Crystal Smith had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals to lead the charge for the winners. Njardvik's coach Lele Hardy rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Grindavik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Haukar and Njardvik. Grindavik will face league's second-placed Snaefell in Stykkisholmur in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Njardvik will play on the road against the league's leader Keflavik.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 35 points (!!!), 25 rebounds and 5 assists by Lele Hardy of Njardvik.


Keflavik - KR 80-73

Rather expected game when 3rd ranked KR (6-4) was defeated on the road by top-ranked Keflavik (10-0) 80-73 on Wednesday. KR trailed by 18 points after 3 quarters before a 27-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 73-80 at the end of the game. Keflavik made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game. American guard Jessica Jenkins (172-90, college: St.Bonaventure) scored 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her twelve free throws !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Sara Run Hinriksdottir (165-96) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Keflavik's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international power forward Sigrun Amundadottir (181-88, agency: Promotex) responded with 27 points and 6 rebounds (made all of her ten free throws !!!) and American guard Patechia Hartman (170-83, college: Georgia St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Keflavik have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-0 record. KR at the other side keeps the third place with four games lost. Keflavik will face Njardvik (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. KR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik Fjolnir.

Valur - Fjolnir 79-83

There was a surprise result in Reykjavik where eighth ranked Fjolnir (2-8) defeated higher ranked Valur (5-5) 83-79 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-79. Fjolnir made 22-of-23 free shots (95.7 percent) during the game. Fjolnir had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fjolnir made 7 blocks. American guard Britney Jones (172-87, college: UAB) scored 40 points (!!!), 7 assists and 5 steals (made all of her twelve free throws !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Heidrun Harpa Rikhardsdottir (173-92) chipped in 19 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international forward Kristrun Sigurjonsdottir (176-85) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds and guard Gudbjorg Sverrisdottir (180-92) scored 15 points and 8 assists. Valur's coach Agust Bjorgvinsson tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Fjolnir maintains eighth position with 2-8 record. Valur lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with five games lost. Fjolnir's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena KR.

Not a big story in a game in Stykkisholmur where 5th ranked Haukar (3-7) was defeated by second ranked Snaefell (8-2) 81-72 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Haukar won third quarter 18-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Snaefell looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Snaefell made 7 blocks. American forward Kieraah Marlow (178-85) had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Alda Jonsdottir (179-79) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American swingman Siarre Evans (178-88, college: E.Tenn.St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and guard Margret Halfdanardottir (173-94) scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Snaefell have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader Keflavik. Haukar at the other side keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Snaefell will face Grindavik (#6) on the road in the next round. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 14-7. Grindavik dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Njardvik's 28. American guard Crystal Smith (168-84, college: Iowa) had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Petrunella Skuladottir (177-85) chipped in 20 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. U.M.F. Njardvik (Dominos League) landed 23-year old American forward Erika Williams (183-94). She just graduated from CSU Bakersfield (NCAA). Williams has played there for the last five years. In 27 games she averaged 12.3ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.4apg and 1.1spg last season. She helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in Western Athletic Conference.
