Here is the weekly review of the top performing Icelandic players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82, currently plays in Sweden). He led Sundsvall Dragons to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked 08 Stockholm (6-5) 100-84 in the Swedish Basketligan in Friday night's game. Baeringsson had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 3 assists (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in 30 minutes on the court. Sundsvall Dragons (10-2) is placed first in the Basketligan. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Baeringsson is ranked second on the list of the best rebounders in the league with 9.7rpg. He also averaged so far 14.5ppg, 3.4apg, 2FGP: 57.0%(53-93), 3FGP: 36.4% and FT: 79.3% in the 12 games he played so far. Baeringsson is currently a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

Second place goes to an international point guard Jakob Sigurdarson (192-82, college: Birm.Southern, currently plays in Sweden) is a teammate of previously mentioned Hlynur Baeringsson and both played together in the last Swedish Basketligan game. Sigurdarson was the major contributor in a Sundsvall Dragons' victory against the sixth-ranked 08 Stockholm (6-5) 100-84. He scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It's Sigurdarson's fourth season with the team. Sigurdarson has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.1ppg, 2.7rpg, 2.8apg, 2FGP: 55.4%(31-56), 3FGP: 39.1% and FT: 93.3%(42-45). Sigurdarson is in the roster of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #3. The Icelandic player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87, agency: I.D.S. Law, currently plays in Sweden). He contributed to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Eco Orebro (3-9) 82-65 in the Swedish Basketligan on Friday night. Ermolinskij scored 10 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 8 assists in 29 minutes. Norrkoping Dolphins (8-0) is placed first in the Basketligan. So far his team won all eight games in the Regular Season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Ermolinskij is currently sixth on the league's list of best passers with 4.5apg. This year his other stats are: 11.1ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 47.5%, 3FGP: 37.1% and FT: 78.4% in the 11 games. Ermolinskij is also a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #4. Guard Jon Stefansson (196-82, currently plays in Spain) managed to help CAI Zaragoza to win against the 16th-ranked Cajasol (1-7) crushing them 86-55 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He scored 5 points. CAI Zaragoza (5-3) is placed fifth in the ACB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Stefansson's overall stats this year are: 8.4ppg and 1.6rpg. He is also Icelandic national team player.

   #5. International point guard Hoerdur Vilhjalmsson (190-88, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German BBL could not help Mitteldeutscher BC (2-8) in their last game. Despite Vilhjalmsson's good performance Mitteldeutscher BC lost 69-84 on the road to the much higher-ranked (#5) BBC Bayreuth. He scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 30 minutes. It was Mitteldeutscher BC's third consecutive loss in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Vilhjalmsson's overall stats are: 9.0ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.8apg in the 10 games. He plays currently for the Icelandic national team.

   #6. Shooting guard Logi Gunnarsson (192-81, currently plays in France) led Angers BC 49 to a victory over the league outsider CFBB (0-9) 81-73 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. Gunnarsson was MVP of the game. He scored 16 points. Angers BC 49 (4-3) is placed seventh in the NM1. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Gunnarsson has relatively good stats this season: 12.3ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.5apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Icelandic National Team roster.

   #7. International small forward Haukur Palsson (197-92, college: Maryland, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help the league outsider Assignia Manresa (0-8) in their game against Real Madrid (8-0) in the Spanish ACB. Palsson scored 6 points in only 10 minutes. The bottom-ranked Assignia Manresa lost 84-97 in Madrid to the leading Real. So far Assignia Manresa lost all eight games in the Regular Season. This year Palsson's total stats are: 1.8ppg and 1.3rpg in the eight games. He is also Icelandic national team player.

   #8. Center Gudni Valentinusson (204-85, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to an Aarhus BC's victory against the closely-ranked Randers (3-9) 83-77 in the Danish Ligaen last Wednesday. Valentinusson scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Aarhus BC (5-7) is placed sixth in the Ligaen. Valentinusson has averaged so far 4.6ppg and 2.5rpg. He used to play for the Icelandic U20 national team back in 2005.

   #9. Former international guard Arnar Jonsson (183-83, currently plays in Denmark) is a teammate of previously mentioned Gudni Valentinusson and both played together in the last Danish Ligaen game. Jonsson contributed to an Aarhus BC's victory against the closely-ranked Randers (3-9) 83-77. He scored only 3 points and added 3 assists in 14 minutes. Jonsson is ranked fifth on the list of the best passers in the league with 5.1apg. This year his other stats are: 7.3ppg, 3.1rpg and 1.2spg in the nine games. Jonsson used to play for the Icelandic national team six years ago.

   #10. Small forward Axel Karason (194-83, currently plays in Denmark) was not able to secure a victory for Vaerlose (4-5) in their game against Horsholm (4-5) in the Danish Ligaen. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Karason scored only 2 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Vaerlose was defeated 84-79 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Horsholm (#5). Karason has averaged so far 9.4ppg, 7.4rpg and 1.7apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Icelandic National Team roster.

Keflavik - Tindastoll 83-73 Keflavik outgunned Tindastoll to advance into the semifinal stage. The game without a history. Keflavik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Tindastoll's 18. They outrebounded Tindastoll 48-32 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Breidablik - Valur 75-72 Breidablik held off Valur to force the decisive fifth game in the series. It looked good early as Valur took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Breidablik had a 22-16 second period charge getting the lead and Valur was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-75. We bring you last week's top performances from Icelandic who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international small forward Haukur Palsson (197-92). He could not help SPO Rouen (10-13) in their last game. Despite Palsson's very good performance SPO Rouen was badly defeated 94-78 on the road by the much higher-ranked (#5) ADA Blois.    [read more]
