Smith's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - Dec 8, 2012

25-year old guard Benjamin Smith (178-G-87) had a great game in the last round for Thor Thorl and receives a Player of the Week award for round 9.
He had a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds, while his team outclassed Keflavik (#6, 5-4) with 26-point margin 108-82. Thor Thorl is placed at 3rd position in Icelandic league. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Thor Thorl will need more victories to improve their 6-2 record. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable three three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He turned to be Thor Thorl's top player in his first season with the team. Jacksonville University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Smith is league's best scorer averaging so far 26.6ppg. Smith is in league's top in assists (5th best: 5.0apg) and averages solid 2.1spg and 45.6% from behind 3-point line.

Second best performed player last round was Aaron Broussard (195-F-90) of top-ranked Grindavik. He is American forward in his first season at Grindavik. In the last game Broussard recorded impressive 28 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Of course he lead Grindavik to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked KFI (#11, 2-7) 110-82. This victory allowed Grindavik to move up to 1st position in the standings. His team has currently 7-2 record. Broussard is a newcomer at Grindavik and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.4ppg (#5). His other stats are also decent: 7.0rpg and 3.8apg.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Damier Pitts (177-PG-89) of KFI (#11). Pitts got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for eight rebounds and ten assists. Despite Pitts' great performance KFI lost 82-110 to the higher-ranked Grindavik (#1, 7-2). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. KFI can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 2-7 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Pitts he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Pitts has a very solid season. In 3 games in Iceland he scored 28.7ppg. Pitts attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. George Valentine (203-F) of Tindastoll - 21 points and 7 rebounds
5. Eric Palm (188-G-87) of IR - 43 points and 3 rebounds
6. Helgi Magnusson (195-SF-82) of KR - 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Brian Mills (203-F-88) of Stjarnan - 19 points and 11 rebounds
8. Michael Craion (195-F-89) of Keflavik - 23 points and 13 rebounds
9. Marcus Van (201-F/C-85) of Njardvik - 17 points and 15 rebounds
10. Justin Shouse (180-G-81) of Stjarnan - 27 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

D1 Round 5: Vestri wins their first game - 16 hours ago

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in D1, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. Vestri can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Akranes, where they defeated IA (0-4) 82-77 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 27-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. 24 personal fouls committed by IA...   [read more]

Dominos League Round 3: Grindavik loses to KR - 2 days ago

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in Dominos League, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. The biggest surprise of round 3 in Dominos League took place in Reykjavik where host KR (3-0) crushed Grindavik (2-1) 87-62 on Thursday evening. The game was mostly controlled by KR.
