   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82, currently plays in Sweden). He led Sundsvall Dragons to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Boras Basket (11-5) crushing them 127-104 in the Swedish Basketligan in Friday night's game. Baeringsson had a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 5 assists in 37 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Sundsvall Dragons (14-2) is placed first in the Basketligan. It was his team's 11th consecutive victory in a row. Baeringsson is currently second on the list of best rebounders with 9.5rpg. He also averaged so far 14.2ppg, 3.5apg, 2FGP: 56.5%(70-124), 3FGP: 37.9% and FT: 73.7% in the 16 games he played so far. Baeringsson is currently a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

Second place goes to an international point guard Jakob Sigurdarson (192-82, college: Birm.Southern, currently plays in Sweden) is a teammate of previously mentioned Hlynur Baeringsson and both played together in the last Swedish Basketligan game. Sigurdarson led Sundsvall Dragons to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Boras Basket (11-5) crushing them 127-104. He recorded 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. It's Sigurdarson's fourth season with the team. Sigurdarson is currently sixth on the league's list of top scorers. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Sigurdarson averages: 17.5ppg, 3.1rpg, 3.2apg, 3FGP: 40.2% and FT: 91.9%(57-62). He is in the roster of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #3. The Icelandic player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Jon Stefansson (196-82, currently plays in Spain). Stefansson contributed to a CAI Zaragoza's victory against one of league's weakest teams Assignia Manresa (1-10) 82-75 in the Spanish ACB on Sunday night. He scored 7 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 24 minutes. CAI Zaragoza (7-4) is placed sixth in the ACB. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Stefansson's overall stats are: 8.2ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 51.2%, 3FGP: 35.3% and FT: 85.7% in the 11 games. He is also a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

Point guard Hoerdur Vilhjalmsson (190-88, currently plays in Germany) led Mitteldeutscher BC to a surprising victory over the sixth-ranked Artland Dragons (7-5) 87-83 in the German BBL in Saturday night's game. Vilhjalmsson was MVP of the game. He scored 18 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Mitteldeutscher BC Weissenfels (5-8) is placed 15th in the BBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Vilhjalmsson has relatively good stats this season: 10.2ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.4apg and 1.2spg. He is also Icelandic national team player.

   #5. International guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87, agency: I.D.S. Law, currently plays in EuroChallenge), who plays in Sweden could not help Norrkoping Dolphins to beat Tampereen Pyrinto (2-4). Ermolinskij scored only 4 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 16 minutes. The first-placed Norrkoping Dolphins lost 80-84 on the road to the lower-ranked (#4) Tampereen Pyrinto in the group K of EuroChallenge. It's Ermolinskij's first season with the team. This year his total stats are: 5.5ppg, 5.3rpg, 4.0apg and 1.2spg in the six games. Ermolinskij plays currently for the Icelandic national team.

   #6. Guard Arnar Jonsson (183-83, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Aarhus BC (5-10) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance Aarhus BC was defeated in a double overtime (!!!) 104-97 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Vaerlose (#5). Jonsson scored 13 points, made 7 passes and 4 steals. Jonsson belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #6. He has averaged so far 7.5ppg, 2.8rpg, 4.8apg and 1.4spg. Jonsson is a former international player as he played for the Icelandic senior team six years ago.

   #7. International shooting guard Logi Gunnarsson (192-81, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Angers BC 49 (4-7) in their game against Cognac (9-3) in the French NM1 (third division), despite his good performance in Saturday night's game. He was the second best scorer with 11 points in 32 minutes. But Angers BC 49 lost 61-76 on the opponent's court to the much higher-ranked (#3) Cognac. It was Angers BC 49's fourth consecutive loss in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Gunnarsson has relatively solid stats: 11.8ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.7apg in the 11 games. He is also Icelandic national team player.

   #8. Small forward Axel Karason (194-83, currently plays in Denmark) faced previously mentioned Arnar Jonsson in the Danish Ligaen last game. Karason helped Vaerlose win their double overtime (!!!) game against the closely-ranked Aarhus BC (5-10) 104-97. He scored 6 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Karason has averaged so far 9.5ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.6apg. He plays currently for the Icelandic national team.

Former U20 international center Gudni Valentinusson (204-85, currently plays in Denmark) is a teammate of previously mentioned Arnar Jonsson and both played together in the last Danish Ligaen game. Valentinusson couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Aarhus BC (5-10) in their game against Vaerlose (5-7). He scored 7 points in only 7 minutes. Aarhus BC lost in a double overtime (!!!) 97-104 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#5) Vaerlose. Valentinusson has averaged so far 4.2ppg and 2.3rpg in the 13 games. He used to play for the Icelandic U20 national team seven years ago.

American Sherrod Wright (193-G-91) had a great game in the last round for Haukar and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9. The 25-year old guard had a double-double of 33 points and eleven rebounds, while his team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Snaefell (#12, 0-9) with 17-point margin 95-78. D1 Round 12: Hottur edges Hamar by three points - 4 days ago

Fifth-ranked Hamar (4-6) made lots of trouble for first ranked Hottur (10-1) in Egilsstadir on Thursday. Hottur managed to secure only three-point victory 78-75. However their fans expected much easier game. Hamar trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 25-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 75-78 at the end of the game. Dominos League Round 9 of Regular Season - 4 days ago

The biggest surprise of round 9 in Dominos League was guest Thor AK's (5-4) road victory over 5th ranked Njardvik (4-5) 105-94 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Njardvik. The game without a history. Thor AK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 62.3 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Thor AK especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage.    [read more]
