We bring you last week's top performances from Icelandic who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Jakob Sigurdarson (192-82, college: Birm.Southern, currently plays in Sweden). He led Sundsvall Dragons to a victory against the eighth-ranked LF Basket (8-9) 102-93 in the Swedish Basketligan in Friday night's game. Sigurdarson scored 18 points and added 3 passes (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line) in 26 minutes on the court. Sundsvall Dragons (15-2) is placed first in the Basketligan. It was his team's 12th consecutive victory in a row. It's Sigurdarson's fourth season with the team. He belongs to league's top scorers and is ranked #6 with 17.5ppg. Sigurdarson also averaged so far 3.0rpg, 3.2apg, 2FGP: 59.6%(53-89), 3FGP: 40.4% and FT: 92.5%(62-67) in the 16 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

Second place goes to an international forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82, currently plays in Sweden) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jakob Sigurdarson and both played together in the last Swedish Basketligan game. Baeringsson contributed to a Sundsvall Dragons' victory against the eighth-ranked LF Basket (8-9) 102-93. He scored 7 points, had 13 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Baeringsson is ranked second on the list of the best rebounders in the league. He has very reliable stats this season: 13.8ppg, 9.7rpg, 3.5apg, 2FGP: 55.8%(72-129), 3FGP: 36.7% and FT: 73.8%. Baeringsson is in the roster of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #3. The Icelandic player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Jon Stefansson (196-82, currently plays in Spain), who plays in the Spanish ACB. He could not help CAI Zaragoza (8-6) to beat Lagun Aro GBC (2-12). Stefansson recorded 7 points in 23 minutes. CAI Zaragoza lost 70-79 on the road to the league outsider (#18) Lagun Aro GBC. This year Stefansson averages: 7.8ppg, 2.4rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 47.1%, 3FGP: 36.6% in the 14 games. He is also a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Hoerdur Vilhjalmsson (194-88, currently plays in Germany) helped Mitteldeutscher BC win their game against the league outsider LTi 46ers (4-11) 93-88 in the German BBL in Wednesday night's game. Vilhjalmsson scored 10 points and added 3 assists. Mitteldeutscher BC Weissenfels (6-9) is placed 14th in the BBL. Vilhjalmsson has relatively good stats this season: 10.6ppg, 2.4rpg, 2.3apg and 1.1spg. He is also Icelandic national team player.

   #5. International small forward Axel Karason (194-83, currently plays in Denmark), who plays in the Danish Ligaen was not able to help Vaerlose (5-8) in their last game. Despite Karason's good performance Vaerlose lost 90-98 on the opponent's court to the lower-ranked (#5) Naestved. He was the second best scorer with 11 points in 35 minutes. It was Vaerlose's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Karason's overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.6apg in the 16 games. He plays currently for the Icelandic national team.

American Sherrod Wright (193-G-91) had a great game in the last round for Haukar and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9. The 25-year old guard had a double-double of 33 points and eleven rebounds, while his team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Snaefell (#12, 0-9) with 17-point margin 95-78. D1 Round 12: Hottur edges Hamar by three points - 4 days ago

Fifth-ranked Hamar (4-6) made lots of trouble for first ranked Hottur (10-1) in Egilsstadir on Thursday. Hottur managed to secure only three-point victory 78-75. However their fans expected much easier game. Hamar trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 25-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 75-78 at the end of the game. Dominos League Round 9 of Regular Season - 4 days ago

The biggest surprise of round 9 in Dominos League was guest Thor AK's (5-4) road victory over 5th ranked Njardvik (4-5) 105-94 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Njardvik. The game without a history. Thor AK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 62.3 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Thor AK especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage.    [read more]
