The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Keflavik (14-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Haukar (7-8) 73-61. It ended at the same time the 14-game winning streak of Keflavik. Keflavik was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 28-13 charge of Haukar, which allowed them to win the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Haukar made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American swingman Siarre Evans (178-88, college: E.Tenn.St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. Guard Margret Halfdanardottir (173-94) contributed with 9 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Birna Valgardsdottir (181-76) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for Keflavik. Haukar maintains fifth place with 7-8 record. Keflavik at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Haukar are looking forward to face Njardvik (#7) at home in the next round. Keflavik will play against Grindavik (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Njardvik. Seventh ranked Njardvik (4-11) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 8th ranked Fjolnir (2-13) 87-85 in the fight for the seventh place. It was a great evening for American Lele Hardy (182-88, college: Clemson, agency: Merit Sports) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!), 18 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Svava Stefansdottir helped adding 11 points and 5 assists. Njardvik's coach Lele Hardy allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Britney Jones (172-87, college: UAB) with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. Defending champion maintains seventh place with 4-11 record. Fjolnir lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Njardvik will play against higher ranked Haukar (#5) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fjolnir will play at home against the league's second-placed Snaefell where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valur maintains fourth place with 8-7 record. Loser Snaefell keeps the second position with four games lost. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena KR.

KR at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. Grindavik's next round opponent will be league's leader Keflavik at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik Valur.


Snaefell - Valur 64-81

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Snaefell (11-4) against fourth ranked Valur (8-7) on Saturday night. Host Snaefell was defeated by Valur in Stykkisholmur 81-64. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Snaefell. The game was mostly controlled by Valur. Snaefell managed to win second period 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valur forced 21 Snaefell turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Alberta Auguste (180-85, college: Tennessee) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. The former international forward Kristrun Sigurjonsdottir (176-85) accounted for 16 points for the winning side. Guard Rebekka Karlsdottir (157-96) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and the former international guard Alda Jonsdottir (179-79) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for Snaefell in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Valur maintains fourth place with 8-7 record. Fjolnir was ahead by 6 points after three quarters before a 29-21 charge of Njardvik, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 21 Fjolnir turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Very important is a road loss of third ranked KR (9-6) against sixth ranked Grindavik (5-10) on Saturday night. Visiting KR was defeated by Grindavik in Grindavik 67-56. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. KR was better in fourth quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 20-of-25 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Grindavik forced 27 KR turnovers.
