Icelandic Express L. round 13 best performance: Michael Craion - Jan 18, 2013

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

American forward Michael Craion (195-F-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Keflavik, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 13.
The 23-year old player had a double-double of 29 points and 17 rebounds, while his team edged out Stjarnan (#4, 9-4) 107-103. Keflavik maintains the 6th position in Icelandic Express L.. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Keflavik will need more victories to improve their 8-5 record. Craion turned to be Keflavik's top player in his first season with the team. Former Oral Roberts University star has very solid stats this year. Craion is in league's top in points (8th best: 21.5ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 13.5rpg) and averages impressive 2.0bpg and 57.5% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was another Keflavik's star - 25-year old American Billy Baptist (196-F-87). Baptist had a very good evening with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds. It was enough for Keflavik to edge slightly higher-ranked Stjarnan (#4, 9-4) 107-103. Keflavik's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 8-5 record is not bad and everything may still change. Baptist is a newcomer at Keflavik, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Aaron Broussard (195-F-90) of league's second-best Grindavik. Broussard showcased his all-around game by recording 15 points, nineteen rebounds (!!!) and six assists in the last round. He was a key player of Grindavik, leading his team to a 90-84 win against #3 ranked Snaefell in a game of the week. Grindavik needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 10 victories and 3 lost games. Broussard has a great season in Iceland. After 13 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 22.9ppg (5th best). He also has 2.4spg and FGP: 51.8%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Eric Palm (188-G-87) of IR - 38 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Jarrid Frye (194-G/F-85) of Stjarnan - 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Nigel Moore (195-F/G-81) of Njardvik - 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Drew Gibson (188-G-85) of Tindastoll - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists
8. Jay Threatt (180-G-89) of Snaefell - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 9 assists
9. David Jackson (201-F-88) of Thor Thorl - 18 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Haminn Quaintance (201-F-85) of Skallagrimur - 20 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

D1 Round 5: Vestri wins their first game - 19 hours ago

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in D1, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Akranes, where they defeated IA (0-4) 82-77 on Sunday.
