Icelandic Express L. round 19 best performance: Shannon McCallum - Feb 5, 2013

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

American guard Shannon McCallum (177-G-87) had a great game in the last round for KR, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 19.
The 25-year old player was the main contributor (44 points, eight rebounds and eight assists) to her team's victory, helping them to crush Njardvik (#6, 5-14) with 16-point margin 84-68. KR maintains the 4th position in Icelandic Express L.. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. KR will need more victories to improve their 11-8 record. In the team's last game McCallum had a remarkable 68.8% from 2-point range. She just recently signed at KR, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Shannon McCallum averages just after three games 36.3ppg, 13.0rpg and 5.0apg.

The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old American Jaleesa Butler (185-G-87) of Valur. Butler had a very good evening with a double-double of 21 points and 21 rebounds. Of course she lead Valur to another comfortable win 80-65 over the lower-ranked Grindavik (#7, 5-14) being unquestionably team leader. Valur's 3rd position in the standings has not changed. Her team's 12-7 record is not bad at all. Butler is one of the most experienced players at Valur and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American Lele Hardy (182-SF-88, agency: Merit Sports) of Njardvik (#6). Hardy got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. She went also for eighteen rebounds . Despite Hardy's great performance Njardvik lost 68-84 to slightly higher-ranked KR (#4, 11-8). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. Njardvik can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 5-14 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Hardy she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Hardy has individually a great season in Iceland. After 19 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 29.4ppg (2nd best), rebounds with 18.9rpg (#1 in league) and assists with 4.4apg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Britney Jones (172-G-87) of Fjolnir - 29 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists
5. Sigrun Amundadottir (181-C/F-88) of KR - 23 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Siarre Evans (178-G/F-88) of Haukar - 20 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Kristrun Sigurjonsdottir (176-F-85) of Valur - 29 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Jessica Jenkins (172-G-90) of Keflavik - 31 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Heidrun Harpa Rikhardsdottir (173-F-92) of Fjolnir - 23 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Crystal Smith (168-G-84) of Grindavik - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Dominos League Round 6: Keflavik beats Valur by three after a very close game - 21 hours ago

There were just 6 rounds played in Regular Season of Dominos League and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Eighth-ranked Valur (1-5) was very close to win a game against first ranked Keflavik (5-1) on Wednesday.
