25-year old guard Shannon McCallum (177-G-87) had an amazing evening in the last round for KR and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 21. She had a double-double of 45 points and 11 rebounds, while her team beat Snaefell (#2, 15-6) 72-64. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. KR maintains the 4th position in Icelandic Express L.. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. KR will need more victories to improve their 13-8 record. In the team's last game McCallum had a remarkable six three-pointers out of 13 attempts. She just recently signed at KR, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Shannon McCallum averages this season 38.4ppg, 12.8rpg and 4.2apg.
Second best performed player last round was Lele Hardy (182-SF-88, agency: Merit Sports) of Njardvik. She is American in her second season at Njardvik. In the last game Hardy recorded impressive double-double of 32 points and 22 rebounds. It was enough for Njardvik to edge the higher-ranked Valur (#3, 13-8) by 6 points 69-63. This victory allowed Njardvik to move up to 6th position in the standings. 15 lost games are too many comparing to just six victories Njardvik managed to get this year. Hardy is well-known at Njardvik and she already established her position as one of the team's leaders. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 29.8ppg (#2). Her other stats are also decent: 19.0rpg and 4.3apg.
Third place about best performers goes to guard Crystal Smith (168-G-84) of Grindavik (#7). Smith got into 30-points club by scoring 38 points in the last round. She went also for eight rebounds and four assists. Despite Smith's great performance Grindavik lost 83-93in overtime to slightly higher-ranked Haukar (#5, 9-12). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. Grindavik can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 6-15 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Smith she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Smith has individually a great season in Iceland. After 17 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 27.1ppg (3rd best) and assists with 4.9apg (4th best).
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
