The Regular Season in Express L. is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 5 rounds.

The most exciting game of round 23 in the Express L. took place in Reykjavik. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Valur (13-10) to third ranked KR (15-8) 62-61 in the game for the third place. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 16-12. But Valur won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when KR won last quarter 19-19. They also forced 26 Valur turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Shannon McCallum (177-87, college: Charlotte) who had a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. The former international power forward Sigrun Amundadottir (181-88, agency: Promotex) chipped in 4 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Jaleesa Butler (185-87, college: Georgetown) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks for the hosts. Valur's coach Agust Bjorgvinsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. KR have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain third place with 15-8 record having five points less than leader Keflavik. Valur lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with ten games lost. KR are looking forward to face league's leader Keflavik at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Valur's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena Fjolnir.
Leader Keflavik delivered the twentiethth victory. This time they crushed 7th ranked Grindavik (6-17) 86-58. American guard Jessica Jenkins (172-90, college: St.Bonaventure) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 5 rebounds. Birna Valgardsdottir contributed with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American guard Crystal Smith (168-84, college: Iowa) answered with 18 points for Grindavik. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Keflavik maintains first place with 20-3 record. Grindavik lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh position with 17 games lost. Keflavik will play against KR (#3) in Reykjavik in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Grindavik will play at home against Njardvik (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Njardvik was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Haukar (11-12) played at the court of 6th ranked Njardvik (7-16). Haukar managed to secure a 5-point victory 68-63 on Wednesday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Njardvik. It was a great evening for Siarre Evans who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds. Lele Hardy responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 21 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Njardvik's coach Lele Hardy tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Haukar. They maintain fifth place with 11-12 record. Defending champion Njardvik keeps the sixth position with 16 games lost. Haukar will meet at home league's second-placed Snaefell in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Njardvik will play against Grindavik (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 23 bottom-ranked Fjolnir was defeated by Snaefell in Stykkisholmur 92-76.

Valur - KR 61-62

Snaefell - Fjolnir 92-76

There was no surprise in Stykkisholmur where 8th ranked Fjolnir (3-20) was defeated by second ranked Snaefell (17-6) 92-76 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Snaefell led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Fjolnir's 40. They outrebounded Fjolnir 49-29 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Snaefell looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Fjolnir's players. It was a great evening for American forward Kieraah Marlow (178-85) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international guard Hildur Sigurdardottir (178-81) helped adding 25 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Snaefell players scored in double figures. American guard Britney Jones (172-87, college: UAB) responded with 36 points (!!!) and 5 assists and forward Heidrun Harpa Rikhardsdottir (173-92) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Snaefell maintains second place with 17-6 record having just three points less than leader Keflavik. Fjolnir lost their fourth game in a row. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Snaefell will meet Haukar (#5) in the next round. Fjolnir's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik Valur.

Njardvik - Haukar 63-68

The game in Njardvik was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Haukar (11-12) played at the court of 6th ranked Njardvik (7-16). Haukar managed to secure a 5-point victory 68-63 on Wednesday. The former international forward Johanna Sveinsdottir (179-89) helped adding 14 points and 5 rebounds. American Lele Hardy (182-88, college: Clemson, agency: Merit Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 21 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals and guard Erna Hakonardottir (168-93) scored 16 points. Haukar (Dominos League) added to their roster American guard Breezy Williams (180, college: North Carolina State). She played last summer at Santeras in Puerto Rican BSNF.
