Butler's double-double lands her Player of the Week award - Mar 3, 2013

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

25-year old guard Jaleesa Butler (185-G-87) had a great game in the last round for Valur and receives a Player of the Week award for round 24.
She had a double-double of 31 points and 17 rebounds, while her team beat Fjolnir (#8, 3-21) 80-74. Valur maintains the 4th position in Icelandic Express L.. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Valur will need more victories to improve their 14-10 record. Butler just recently signed at Valur, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Jaleesa Butler averages this season 19.4ppg and 15.1rpg.

Second best performed player last round was Lele Hardy (182-SF-88, agency: Merit Sports) of Njardvik. She is American in her second season at Njardvik. In the last game Hardy recorded impressive double-double of 26 points and 25 rebounds. It was enough for Njardvik to edge slightly lower-ranked Grindavik (#7, 6-18) by 2 points 71-69. Njardvik's 6th position in the standings has not changed. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-16 record. Hardy is well-known at Njardvik and she already established her position as one of the team's leaders. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 29.5ppg (#2). Her other stats are also decent: 19.3rpg and 4.8apg.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Crystal Smith (168-G-84) of Grindavik (#7). Smith got into 30-points club by scoring 38 points in the last round. She went also for thirteen rebounds . Despite Smith's great performance Grindavik lost 69-71 to slightly higher-ranked Njardvik (#6, 8-16). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. Grindavik can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 6-18 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Smith she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Smith has individually a great season in Iceland. After 20 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 26.3ppg (3rd best) and assists with 4.6apg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Britney Jones (172-G-87) of Fjolnir - 38 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists
5. Siarre Evans (178-G/F-88) of Haukar - 26 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Salbjorg Saevarsdottir (182-C-91) of Njardvik - 10 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Kieraah Marlow (178-F-85) of Snaefell - 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Heidrun Harpa Rikhardsdottir (173-F-92) of Fjolnir - 7 points and 15 rebounds
9. Kristrun Sigurjonsdottir (176-F-85) of Valur - 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Alda Jonsdottir (179-G-79) of Snaefell - 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Dominos League Round 5 of Regular Season - 2 days ago

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in Dominos League, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. The biggest surprise of round 5 was guest Keflavik's (4-1) road victory over Njardvik (#4) 71-65 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Njardvik. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Njardvik won third quarter...   [read more]
