The most exciting game of round 15 in the Dominos League took place in Keflavik. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked Keflavik (7-8) to second ranked Stjarnan (11-4) 106-103 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 30-17 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Stjarnan made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game. Stjarnan outrebounded Keflavik 50-37 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Keflavik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Nigerian-American guard Anthony Odunsi (193-92, college: Houston Baptist) who scored 28 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. The former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) chipped in 14 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists. Stjarnan's coach Hrafn Kristjansson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Amin Stevens (203-90, college: Florida A&M) who recorded a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 rebounds. Stjarnan maintains second place with 11-4 record behind leader KR. Keflavik at the other side keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Njardvik and IR. Stjarnan are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Snaefell (#12) in Stykkisholmur in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Keflavik will play on the road against Tindastoll (#3) in Sauoarkrokur and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Tindastoll (10-5) against ninth ranked Njardvik (7-8) on Thursday night. Visiting Tindastoll was defeated by Njardvik in a tough game in Njardvik 86-92. It was a good game for guard Bjorn Kristjansson (188-92) who led his team to a victory with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Logi Gunnarsson contributed with 20 points and 5 assists for the winners. British swingman Chris Caird (198-89, college: Drake, agency: Interperformances) answered with 39 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Tindastoll. Njardvik have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Keflavik and IR. Tindastoll at the other side dropped to the third position with five games lost. Njardvik will play against Skallagrimur (#10) in Borgarnes in the next round. Tindastoll will play at home against Keflavik (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Leader KR delivered the twelfth victory on Thursday night. This time they beat 11th ranked Haukar (5-10) 77-69 in Reykjavik. It was a great evening for Pavel Ermolinskij who led his team to a victory scoring 8 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and 5 steals. The best for the losing side was Finnur Magnusson with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. KR have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 12-3 record. Loser Haukar keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. KR will meet Thor Thorl (#4) in the next round. Haukar will play against Thor AK (#5) and hope to secure a win.
Bottom-ranked Snaefell (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 99-68 loss to fifth ranked Thor Thorl (9-6) in Stykkisholmur. It was an exceptional evening for Tobin Carberry who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Thor Thorl have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Snaefell at the other side still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Thor Thorl's next round opponent will be league's leader KR in Reykjavik and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Snaefell will play on the road against the league's second-placed Stjarnan (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 15 Grindavik defeated Thor AK in a road game 75-65. IR beat Skallagrimur at home 81-74.
The best stats of 15th round was 15 points, 14 rebounds and 9 blocks by Tryggvi Hlinason of Thor AK.

Thor AK - Grindavik 65-75

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Akureyri where 5th ranked Thor AK (8-7) was defeated by sixth ranked Grindavik (8-7) 75-65. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. Thor AK was better in second period 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for guard Dagur Jonsson (185-95, college: St.Francis, NY) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. The former international guard Olafur Olafsson (194-90) accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. The former international guard Darrel Lewis (192-76, college: Lincoln, MO) came up with 23 points and 9 rebounds and international center Tryggvi Hlinason (215-97) added 15 points, 14 rebounds and 9 blocks respectively for Thor AK in the defeat. Grindavik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Thor AK. Grindavik's next round opponent will be IR (#8) in Reykjavik. Thor AK will play on the road against Haukar in Hafnarfjordur and hope to win that game.

IR - Skallagrimur 81-74

Everything could happen in Reykjavik at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked IR and 10th ranked Skallagrimur had identical 6-8 record. This time IR used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Borgarnes 81-74. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Skallagrimur won third quarter 22-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. IR forced 20 Skallagrimur turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Skallagrimur helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (180-94, college: Columbus St.) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 7 assists. Forward Hjalti Fridriksson (201-89) accounted for 12 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. Five IR players scored in double figures. Point guard Sigtryggur Bjornsson (180-93) came up with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and American forward Flenard Whitfield (200-90, college: W.Michigan) added 23 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Skallagrimur in the defeat. IR (7-8) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Keflavik and Njardvik. Skallagrimur lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with nine games lost. IR's next round opponent will be higher ranked Grindavik (#6) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Skallagrimur will play against Njardvik (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Haukar was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 24-15 charge of KR, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for the former international guard Pavel Ermolinskij (202-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 8 points, 11 rebounds, 13 assists and 5 steals. Swingman Darri Hilmarsson (190-87) helped adding 19 points. The best for the losing side was the former international center Finnur Magnusson (207-85, college: Catawba) with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Sherrod Wright (193-91, college: George Mason) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. U.M.F. Tindastoll Sauoarkrokur (Dominos League) confirmed in their roster 27-year old American forward Antonio Hester (198-90, college: Mobile, AL). He was a team leader there last season. In 20 Dominos League games he recorded very impressive stats: 23.4ppg, 10.8rpg, 2.3apg, 1.3spg and 1.2bpg. Iceland U20 won the International friendly tournament with 4 participating teams. Last night they overcame Finland U20 75-60 to finish with a 2-1 record. Trailing 13-14 at the end of the first period, Iceland U20 needed a strong 25-10 surge in the second period to take control of the game. Tryggvi Hlinason (215-C-97) top-scored for the winners with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Kari Jonsson (190-G-97) added 14.
