Here is the weekly review of the top performing Icelandic players, who play currently abroad.


Elvar Fridriksson

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Elvar Fridriksson (183-94, college: LIU Brooklyn, currently plays in NCAA2). He led Barry University to a victory against the Eckerd College (9-4) 84-72 in the NCAA2 in Saturday night's game. Fridriksson scored 30 points (!!!), grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 32 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. The Barry University has a very good 11-2 record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Fridriksson has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.3ppg, 4.0rpg, 7.1apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 54.4%, 3FGP: 39.7% and FT: 88.4% in 14 games he played so far. Ex-UMFN Njardvik player is currently a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to U20 international guard Jon Gudmundsson (193-96, currently plays college basketball in the States). Gudmundsson contributed to an easy victory against the Saint Joseph's University (0-1) 75-60 in the NCAA last Tuesday. He scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. The Davidson College has 2-3 conference record this season. It's Gudmundsson's first year with the team. Gudmundsson's overall stats this year are: 8.2ppg, 4.5rpg, 3.7apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 45.8%, 3FGP: 34.2% and FT: 75.0%. He is in the roster of the Icelandic U20 national team.

   #3. The Icelandic player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Kristofer Acox (198-93, currently studies in the States). Acox contributed to an easy victory against the Western Carolina University (0-1) crushing them 85-37 in the NCAA on Wednesday night. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 11 rebounds. Acox also added 3 assists and 2 blocks in 23 minutes. The Furman University has 3-2 conference record this season. Acox is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Furman's roster. He has relatively good stats this season: 12.7ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.3apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 60.2%(124-206) and FT: 61.5% in 22 games. Acox is also a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #4. Guard Kari Jonsson (190-97, is currently at the American university), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Drexel (1-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the Drexel was defeated 90-76 on the road by the College of Charleston. Jonsson scored 17 points. Jonsson's overall stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 2.3rpg and 2.0apg. He is also Icelandic U20 national team player.

   #5. U20 international swingman Kristinn Palsson (198-97, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to help the Marist (3-5) in their last game. Despite Palsson's good performance the Marist lost 62-72 at home to the Fairfield University. He scored 11 points (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line) in 32 minutes. This year Palsson's overall stats are: 4.9ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.5apg in 22 games. He plays currently for the Icelandic U20 national team.

Axel Karason

   #6. Small forward Axel Karason (193-83, currently plays in Denmark) managed to help Svendborg Rabbits to win against the league outsider Stevnsgade (0-18) crushing them 106-84 in the Danish Ligaen on Friday night. Karason scored 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Svendborg Rabbits (11-9) is placed third in the Ligaen. Karason's total stats this season are: 4.3ppg and 3.8rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Icelandic National Team roster.

Ragnar Nathanaelsson

   #7. International center Ragnar Nathanaelsson (218-91, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Albacete (5-13) in their game against Zornotza (9-9) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Nathanaelsson scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Albacete was defeated 71-61 on their home court in Albacete by the higher-ranked Zornotza (#10). It was Albacete's third consecutive loss in a row. Nathanaelsson's total stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 6.0rpg. He is also Icelandic national team player.

   #1. Gunnar Hardarson (185-SG-96, currently plays in NCAA2) contributed to a 3-point Belmont Abbey College's victory against the Mount Olive College (5-9) 64-61 in the NCAA2 in Wednesday night's game. Hardarson scored 7 points in 20 minutes. The Belmont Abbey College has 5-7 record this season. It's Hardarson's first year with the team. This year his total stats are: 8.8ppg and 1.6rpg in 18 games he played so far.

   #2. Gunnar Olafsson (190-G/F-93, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the St.Francis, NY (2-4) to beat the Wagner College (1-5). Olafsson cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only one point in 15 minutes. The St.Francis, NY was edged 66-64 at home by the Wagner College. This year Olafsson's total stats are: 5.0ppg and 5.3rpg in 21 games.

Grindavik - KR 79-66 Grindavik rallied past KR at home court to even the title series at 2-2. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. KR managed to win third quarter 17-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening.
