Urald King
American Urald King (198-F-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Valur and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com D1 Player of the Week award for round 23.
The 26-year old forward had the game-high 24 points adding eight rebounds and two assists for Valur in his team's victory, helping them to beat FSU (#7, 7-14) 81-76. Valur maintains the 3rd position in Icelandic D1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Valur will need more victories to improve their 15-4 record. King turned to be Valur's top player in his first season with the team. SE Oklahoma State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. King is in league's top in points (6th best: 21.6ppg), rebounds (5th best: 11.1rpg) and averages solid 2.3bpg,2.2spg and 57.6% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 22-year old guard Robert Sigurdsson (187-G-94) of second-ranked Fjolnir. Sigurdsson impressed basketball fans with 35 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists. Bad luck as Fjolnir was edged by slightly lower-ranked Breidablik (#4, 13-7) 88-85. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Fjolnir still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 16-5 record is not bad at all. Sigurdsson is one of the most experienced players at Fjolnir and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was American Terrance Motley (201-F-91) of FSu (#7). Motley got into 30-points club by scoring 36 points in the last round. He went also for fifteen rebounds . Despite Motley's great performance FSU lost 76-81 to the higher-ranked Valur (#3, 15-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of FSU not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 14 games, recording just seven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Motley could try to bring FSU's a little bit higher in the standings. Motley has individually a great season in Iceland. After 21 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 31.3ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 13.0rpg (3rd best). He also has 2.2spg, 1.1bpg and FGP: 53.0%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tyrone Garland (185-G-92) of Breidablik - 38 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Collin Pryor (200-F-90) of Fjolnir - 20 points and 13 rebounds
6. Gudjon Gudjonsson (198-F-95) of Hamar - 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Birgir Petursson (205-C-86) of Valur - 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Jon Kristjansson (197-C-83) of IA - 11 points and 12 rebounds
9. Hinrik Gudbjartsson (185-PG-96) of Vestri - 24 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Derek Shouse (188-G-93) of IA - 20 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

D1 Round 4 of Semi-Finals. Breidablik and Fjolnir force deciders - 2 hours ago
Breidablik - Valur 75-72 Breidablik held off Valur to force the decisive fifth game in the series. It looked good early as Valur took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Breidablik had a 22-16 second period charge getting the lead and Valur was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-75. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Tyrone Garland (185-92, college: La Salle) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!) and guard...   [read more]

Haukur Palsson selected the top Icelandic playing abroad in last week's games - 23 hours ago
We bring you last week's top performances from Icelandic who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international small forward Haukur Palsson (197-92). He could not help SPO Rouen (10-13) in their last game. Despite Palsson's very good performance SPO Rouen was badly defeated 94-78 on the road by the much higher-ranked (#5) ADA Blois.    [read more]

Dominos League Round 3 of Quarter-Finals. KR and Stjarnan reach semifinal stage - 1 day ago
Tindastoll - Keflavik 107-80 Tindastoll avoided elimination as they cruised past Keflavik at home court. The game was mostly controlled by Tindastoll. Keflavik managed to win fourth quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tindastoll looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Keflavik's players. The best player for the winners was point guard Bjorgvin Rikhardsson (175-93) who scored 22 points and...   [read more]
