We bring you last week's top performances from Icelandic who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Elvar Fridriksson (183-94, college: LIU Brooklyn, currently plays in NCAA2). He led Barry University to a victory against the Embry Riddle University (9-8) 113-102 in the NCAA2 in Saturday night's game. Fridriksson scored 37 points (!!!), grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 9 assists in 30 minutes on the court. The Barry University has a solid 12-5 record this season. There are only two games left until the end of the NCAA2 Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Fridriksson has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.6ppg, 4.1rpg, 7.5apg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 58.2%(78-134), 3FGP: 38.9% and FT: 88.8% in 21 games he played so far. Ex-UMFN Njardvik player is currently a member of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international small forward Haukur Palsson (197-92, college: Maryland, currently plays in France). Palsson contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Denain Voltaire (9-10) 75-57 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. He recorded 11 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and made 2 blocks. SPO Rouen Basket (8-11) is placed 15th in the ProB. Palsson has relatively good stats this season: 11.9ppg, 4.6rpg, 3.9apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 36.5%, 3FGP: 43.5% and FT: 75.0%. He is in the roster of the Icelandic senior national team.

   #3. The Icelandic player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international point guard Jakob Sigurdarson (192-82, college: Birm.Southern, currently plays in Sweden). Sigurdarson contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Umea (4-23) crushing them 93-69 in the Swedish Basketligan on Friday night. He scored 14 points, made 5 passes and 3 steals in 27 minutes. Boras Basket (14-13) is placed sixth in the Basketligan. This year Sigurdarson has relatively solid stats: 13.3ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.3apg, 2FGP: 50.4%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 96.3%(78-81) in 26 games. He played for the Icelandic national team two years ago.

   #4. Forward Kristofer Acox (198-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to Furman's victory against the Wofford College (2-8) 78-69 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Acox scored 25 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Furman University has quite an impressive 12-2 conference record this season. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. It's Acox's fourth year with the team. He has reliable stats this season: 13.0ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.5apg and 1.4spg. Acox is also Icelandic national team player.

Jon Gudmundsson

   #5. U20 international guard Jon Gudmundsson (193-96, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the Davidson (5-7) in their last game. Despite his good performance the Davidson lost 82-89 on the road to the University of Dayton. Gudmundsson scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 32 minutes. His team will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. It's Gudmundsson's first season with the team. This year Gudmundsson's overall stats are: 8.1ppg, 4.2rpg, 3.4apg and 1.2spg in 27 games. He plays currently for the Icelandic U20 national team.

   #6. Guard Martin Hermannsson (190-94, college: LIU Brooklyn, currently plays in France) was not able to help Charleville-Mezieres in their game against Lille Metropole (11-8) in the French ProB (second division). Despite his very good performance on Friday night Hermannsson was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 6 assists (made all of his six free throws). This season Hermannsson has very high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 4.1rpg and 5.9apg. Hermannsson is an international player who is currently on the senior Icelandic National Team roster.

   #7. International point guard Aegir Steinarsson (185-91, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management, college: Newberry, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Burgos (16-9) in their game against Leyma Basquet (15-10) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He recorded 5 points and added 8 assists in 23 minutes. Burgos was edged 89-86 at home by the lower-ranked (#7) Leyma Basquet. This year Steinarsson's total stats are: 5.4ppg, 2.6rpg and 3.8apg in 25 games. He is also Icelandic national team player.

   #8. Small forward Axel Karason (193-83, currently plays in Denmark) managed to help Svendborg Rabbits in a 2-point victory against one of league's weakest teams Randers (9-17) 85-83 in the Danish Ligaen on Saturday night. He scored only 3 points in 8 minutes on the court. Svendborg Rabbits (13-12) is placed fourth in the Ligaen. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Karason has averaged so far 4.0ppg and 3.5rpg in 23 games. He plays currently for the Icelandic national team.

   #9. U20 international swingman Kristinn Palsson (198-97, is currently at the American university) couldn't help the Marist (3-13) in their game against the Siena College (8-7) in the NCAA. Palsson cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 3 points. The Marist was badly defeated 80-64 on their home court in Poughkeepsie by the Siena College. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Palsson has averaged so far 4.4ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.4apg. He is also in the roster of the Icelandic U20 national team.

   #10. Center Ragnar Nathanaelsson (218-91, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Albacete (5-17) in their game against Fontedoso Carrefour (15-7) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Nathanaelsson recorded 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 17 minutes. Albacete lost 72-81 on their home court in Albacete to the much higher-ranked (#3) Fontedoso Carrefour. It was Albacete's seventh consecutive loss in a row. Nathanaelsson has averaged so far 4.7ppg and 5.3rpg in six games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Icelandic National Team roster.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Icelandic passport:

   #1. Gunnar Hardarson (185-SG-96, currently plays in NCAA2) could not help the Belmont Abbey College (8-10) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Hardarson's good performance the Belmont Abbey College was badly defeated 85-67 on the road by the King University. He scored 12 points. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA2. Hardarson has averaged so far 7.2ppg and 1.5rpg.

Grindavik - KR 79-66 Grindavik rallied past KR at home court to even the title series at 2-2. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. KR managed to win third quarter 17-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. KR trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 23-15 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 86-91 at the end of the game. Grindavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists.
