Fjolnir - Hamar 88-76

Fjolnir fired past Hamar in the semifinal series opener. The game was mostly controlled by Fjolnir. Hamar was better in third quarter 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Hamar's players. American Marques Oliver (201-91, college: Delaware St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Robert Sigurdsson (187-94) chipped in 12 points and 6 assists. Five Fjolnir players scored in double figures. Fjolnir's coach Hjalti Vilhjalmsson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) responded with 28 points and 6 rebounds and guard Runar Erlingsson (187-89) scored 12 points.

Valur - Breidablik 95-88

Valur rallied past Breidablik to take 1-0 lead in the series. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 17-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-88. Valur made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Valur outrebounded Breidablik 43-32 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Breidablik's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Valur made 7 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by Breidablik helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Urald King (198-90, college: SE Oklahoma) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Naturalized American guard Austin Bracey (190-90) contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American guard Tyrone Garland (185-92, college: La Salle) answered with 42 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and swingman Snorri Vignisson (193-97) added 18 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Breidablik.

Thor AK Akureyri (Dominos League) added to their roster 26-year old American power forward Marques Oliver (201-100kg-91, college: Delaware State). He played last season at Fjolnir in the D1. Thor AK Akureyri (Dominos League) landed 22-year old guard Hreidar Vilhjalmsson (190-95). He has played for the last four years at Fjolnir in the D1. In 28 games he averaged 5.4ppg, 1.2rpg and 1.9apg last season. Vilhjalmsson helped them to make it to the semifinals. He played in the final of Icelandic D1 Playoff in 2016. Russia wins International tournament in Kazan - 3 days ago
Russia - Iceland 82-69 Russia won the International tournament in Kazan undefeated. In the last game the overcame Iceland 82-69 to finish with a perfect 3-0 record. Russia insured a 24-15 lead from the start and added a 24-16 run in the second period. Iceland pulled back in the third quarter as they produced a 23-12 surge, however the hosts closed the game with a final 22-15 rally.
