Best players of Irish SuperLeague round 16 - Feb 7, 2012

Experienced naturalized American Jermaine Turner (195-F-74) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's second-best 11890 Killester and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 16.
The 37-year old forward had a double-double of 19 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team outclassed UCD Marian (#3, 6-10) with 39-point margin 93-54. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. 11890 Killester maintains the 2nd position in American SuperLeague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. 11890 Killester will need more victories to improve their 11-5 record. In the team's last game Turner had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at 11890 Killester, through which he has constantly improved. Dowling College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Turner. Turner is in league's top in points (5th best: 19.4ppg), assists (8th best: 3.9apg) and averages solid 3.6bpg,3.6spg and 65.7% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 30-year old American power forward Ronald Thompson (208-F/C-81) of second-ranked B.Gais Neptune. Thompson impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Of course B.Gais Neptune cruised to a 62-53 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Moycullen (#4, 4-13). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. B.Gais Neptune consolidated its place in top 2 of the standings. His team's 9-6 record is not bad at all. Thompson is a newcomer at B.Gais Neptune and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.8ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 14.4rpg and 3.8apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Joshua Johnson (199-F-85) of Belfast Star (#4). Johnson scored 24 points and grabbed fourteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Johnson's great performance Belfast Star lost 63-82 to #1 ranked DCU Saints. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Belfast Star can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-14 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Johnson he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Johnson has individually a great season in Ireland. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 27.7ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 11.7rpg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Michael Trimmer (204-C-67) of DCU Saints - 20 points and 11 rebounds
5. Keith Anderson (188-G-89) of DCU Saints - 26 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Martins Provizors (202-C-87) of DCU Saints - 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Jody O'Neill) of 11890 Killester - 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists
8. Patrick Glover (193-F-77) of DCU Saints - 12 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Michael Westbrooks (193-G-82) of 11890 Killester - 11 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Kieran O'Brien (203-F/C-82) of 11890 Killester - 8 points and 10 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
