The Regular Season in Superleague just ended. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

Seventh-ranked Ulster Rockets (6-12) used its home court advantage to challenge fourth ranked 11890 Killester (11-7) in Belfast on Saturday. The visitors from Killester managed to secure only three-point victory 62-59. However their fans expected easier game. 11890 Killester looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Center Louise Gray (175-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 4 assists. Guard Michelle Clarke (173-94) contributed with 15 points and 8 assists for the winners. 11890 Killester's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Noleen Lennon answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for Ulster Rockets. 11890 Killester maintains fourth place with 11-7 record. Newly promoted Ulster Rockets keep the seventh position with 12 games lost.
An interesting game for UL Aughinish (18-0) which hosted in Limerick second-ranked TM Hotel Cork (15-3). Leader UL Aughinish had an easy win 80-56. Canadian-British guard Rachel Vanderwal (176-83, college: Boston U.) stepped up and scored 20 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners and Michelle Fahy chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Grainne Dwyer (-84) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Undefeated UL Aughinish have an impressive series of sixteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-0 record. TM Hotel Cork at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. They share it with DCU Mercy.
An interesting game was also surprising road defeat of 5th ranked Peugeot Meteors in a game in Brunell versus Singleton (#8) 69-63. Amy Waters nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 19 rebounds for the winning side. Jade Daly came up with 19 points and 5 steals for Peugeot Meteors in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Singleton. Newly promoted Singleton maintains eighth place with 5-13 record. Loser Peugeot Meteors keep the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Waterford W.
Bottom-ranked Liffey Celtics managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of fourteen consecutive loses. This time newly promoted Liffey Celtics won against eighth-ranked Singleton in Brunell 62-56. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Singleton. The best player for the winners was Aine O'Connor who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Liffey Celtics (2-16) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Oblate Dynamos. Singleton at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost.

In the last two games of round 17 Waterford W. smashed Meteors on the road 65-46. Oblate Dynamos were destroyed by DCU Mercy on its own court 31-79.


Singleton - Liffey Celtics 56-62

Bottom-ranked Liffey Celtics managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of fourteen consecutive loses. This time newly promoted Liffey Celtics won against eighth-ranked Singleton in Brunell 62-56. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Singleton. Strangely Singleton outrebounded Liffey Celtics 43-31 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was Aine O'Connor who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Karen Mealey chipped in 21 points. Amy Waters produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds and Megan O'Leary added 14 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Liffey Celtics (2-16) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Oblate Dynamos. Singleton at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when sixth ranked Waterford Wildcats (8-10) crushed 5th ranked Peugeot Meteors (8-10) in Dublin 65-46 on Sunday. Waterford Wildcats moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Meteors.

Superleague top team - UL Aughinish (18-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed seventh ranked Ulster Rockets (6-12) in Belfast 79-60. They outrebounded Ulster Rockets 39-21 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international center Michelle Fahy (183-82) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Rachel Clancy (175-88, college: Cal Poly - SLO) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Meghan Houlihan answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and Helena Fairbairn added 12 points in the effort for Ulster Rockets. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the sixteenth consecutive win for UL Aughinish. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-0 record. Newly promoted Ulster Rockets keep the seventh position with 12 games lost.

Very expected game when 9th ranked Oblate Dynamos (2-16) were smashed by third ranked DCU Mercy (15-3) in Dublin 79-31 on Saturday. DCU Mercy held Oblate Dynamos to an opponent 19.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.5 percent accuracy of the winners and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The former international guard Lindsay Peat (175-80) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points. Center Christina Newton (180-90) contributed with 11 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four DCU Mercy players scored in double figures. Forward Tessa Solan (177-92) answered with 8 points and 19 rebounds and guard Julie Wilkins (170-87) added 5 points in the effort for Oblate Dynamos. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. DCU Mercy moved-up to second place, which they share with TM Hotel Cork. Loser Oblate Dynamos dropped to the bottom position with 16 games lost.
