As the basketball season begins to pick up momentum so do the teams around the country. This weekend saw plenty of action, upsets and interesting results in the Nivea For Mens SuperLeague and the Nivea Womens SuperLeague.
It was Moycullen who registered the first attention grabbing result this weekend as they claimed their first win of the season when they beat UCD Marian in double overtime. This game definitely proved an exciting one as people in UCD Sports Complex took to the internet to keep people posted.
Speaking after the game, Moycullens Head Coach, Salva Camps was thrilled with the result, I am so happy for the team after that win. It was a tough game with both teams playing very good basketball.
Camps continued to praise his young side, To come away with a win after double overtime is a great achievement, it was an impressive result especially with such a young team.
Down in Limerick, it was UL Eagles who continued their winning ways after they claimed victory over Dublin Inter. With a game that was reported as sluggish and baskets difficult to come by it was another vital win for the Eagles as they push forward.
Head Coach of UL Eagles, Mark Keenan was happy to come away from the game with a win, It wasnt a pretty game we really had to dig deep and stick with it. We had to grind that game out until the very end.
Commenting on his team Keenan admitted, We didnt play together in the first half, everyone seemed more concerned about individual performances than the teams. In fairness to the guys though, we came together in the second half and really put in a team effort and played as a unit.
Meanwhile, UCC Demons remained undefeated this weekend after their win over Killester. Demons are now at the top of the table as they have yet to drop a game with a 6-0 record.
Paul Kelleher, Head Coach of UCC Demons said, We knew going into the game that Killesters guards were going to be very strong and to be honest that is what caused us massive problems.
Kelleher continued, I am happy that we have recorded another win but we still need to work on keeping a hold of a lead when we have it. Too many times we relax and let teams back in, we need to maintain a stronger hold throughout games.
It was Bord Gais Neptune who came away with another win this weekend when they travelled to Dublin to take on DCU Saints. The Cork side look as though they are turning a corner after their disappointing start to the season as they add another victory to their sheet.
After the game, Mark Scannell Head Coach of Bord Gais Neptune enthused, That was a good win for us on the road, DCU are a great side so to come away with the three points is brilliant. It was a real team performance for us with everyone chipping in. Ger Noonan showed great leadership down the stretch and our young guys like Mark stepped up and played great.
Scannell continued, I am really happy with where the team is at right now, we were unlucky at the start of the season but the hard work is paying off and we are getting the results we want and need.

Will runs the floor very well. He is always a double- double threat on the court. He is really intense and hard mentality. Has shown the ability to guard smaller defenders and pressure ball handlers.
