Dwyer's 30-point game gives her Player of the Week award - Nov 21, 2012

30-year old guard Niamh Dwyer (176-G-82) had an amazing evening in the last round for TM Hotel Cork and receives a Player of the Week award for round 6.
She had the game-high 30 points adding four rebounds for TM Hotel Cork in her team's victory, helping them to beat Liffey Celtics (#9, 0-4), the league's bottom-ranked team 78-64. TM Hotel Cork maintains the 3rd position in Irish Superleague. They are still close to the very top. TM Hotel Cork would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 4-1 record. In the team's last game Dwyer had a remarkable 62.5% from 2-point range. It's her second year at TM Hotel Cork and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Monmouth University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Dwyer is in league's top in points (2nd best: 17.3ppg), rebounds (3rd best: 8.5rpg) and averages solid 3.3spg and 51.1% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Meagan Hoffman (183-F-82) of top-ranked DCU Mercy. She is American-British forward in her first season at DCU Mercy. In the last game Hoffman recorded impressive double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Of course DCU Mercy cruised to a 66-58 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Meteors (#7, 2-5). Of course DCU Mercy still keep the league's top spot. A very good start of the season for her team, which won so far all 6 games without any defeat. Hoffman is a newcomer at DCU Mercy and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Fionnuala Toner (175-G) of Ulster Rockets (#8). Toner scored 17 points. Despite Toner's great performance Ulster Rockets lost 57-63 to slightly higher-ranked Waterford W. (#6, 2-4). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Ulster Rockets can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-5 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Toner she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Toner has individually a great season in Ireland. After only 6 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 12.7ppg (9th best). She also has 3.5spg and FGP: 57.1%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Cathy Kavanagh (187-G-90) of Waterford W. - 14 points and 11 rebounds
5. Megan O'Leary) of Singleton - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Grainne Dwyer (F-84) of TM Hotel Cork - 15 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Sarah Woods (174-G-88) of DCU Mercy - 26 points and 2 rebounds
8. Michelle Fahy (183-C-82) of UL Aughinish - 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Marie Breen (185-F/G-85) of TM Hotel Cork - 15 points and 12 rebounds
10. Rachel Clancy (175-G-88) of UL Aughinish - 18 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
