Basketball Ireland Cup Quarter Final Weekend Preview

In the Womens SuperLeague Cup Singleton SuperValu Brunell travel to Limerick where they play UL Huskies in a rematch of their thrilling recent Nivea Womens SuperLeague game that saw only seven points separate the teams.

Despite losing on that occasion, Brunell took a lot of heart from their performance against the defending cup and league champions and went on to beat DCU Mercy the following week.

Huskies head coach, James Weldon is hoping that home court advantage this time around will help his team through the contest.

The cup is always special. We got a taste of winning it last year and the girls are hungry for more.

We definitely need a better start than when we last played Brunell and our defence will have to improve but we are playing well right now and the fact that this one is at home I think is a big advantage, especially in cup basketball.

Completing a busy week, Ulster Rockets welcome WIT Wildcats to Belfast on Saturday evening, just three days after a tough loss in Dublin mid-week to DCU Mercy.

Head coach Breda Dick remains focused on the task at hand however and has her team ready to play.

We need to shoot a better percentage than we did last time we played Wildcats. We are not quite as physical as other teams in the league and we need to take advantage of more of the chances we are creating.

The last time Wildcats and Rockets met in Belfast, Wildcats emerged victorious by six points. This weekends cup game promises to be a different affair however, with American players for both teams (Terran Condrey for WIT and Megan Houlihan for Rockets) available now that were not then.

Elsewhere in the Womens SuperLeague Cup, Team Montenotte Hotel Cork host Meteors and Liffey Celtics square off against DCU Mercy.
