Here is the weekly review of the top performing Irish players, who play currently abroad.

Donnie McGrath
Donnie McGrath
#1. This week's number one is former international guard Donnie McGrath (193-84, college: Providence, currently plays in Greece). He led PAOK to a victory against the league outsider Ilysiakos (1-8) 76-72 in the Greek A1 last Saturday. McGrath scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. PAOK Thessaloniki (7-2) is placed third in the A1. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. McGrath has relatively good stats this year: 14.9ppg, 2.4rpg, 3.0apg, 2FGP: 63.8%(30-47), 3FGP: 40.9%. He is a naturalized American. McGrath played for the Irish senior national team four years ago. Strangely he has never played in Ireland.

Colin O'Reilly
Colin O'Reilly
#2. Second place goes to former international forward Colin O'Reilly (200-84, college: Post, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British BBL. He could not help Plymouth Raiders (8-5) in their last game on Friday. Despite O'Reilly's good performance Plymouth Raiders was defeated 95-91 on the road by the lower-ranked London Lions (#6). He scored 11 points, grabbed 5 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 3 balls. It's O'Reilly's first season with the team. O'Reilly has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.1ppg, 7.5rpg, 3.2apg, 2FGP: 61.3%(57-93), 3FGP: 36.4% and FT: 84.6%. O'Reilly played for the Irish national team in 2009.

Bryan Mullins
Bryan Mullins
#3. The Irish player who performed third best last week abroad was former international point guard Bryan Mullins (185-87, college: S.Illinois, currently plays in France). Mullins contributed to Chalons-Reims' victory against the closely-ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (10-3) 87-78 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. He recorded 13 points and added 3 assists in 31 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Chalons-Reims (9-4) is placed fourth in the ProB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Mullins' overall stats are: 7.5ppg, 2.6rpg, 4.3apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 51.0%, 3FGP: 36.7% in the 13 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Mullins played for the Irish national team three years ago. Apparently he has never played in Ireland.

Mark Reynolds
Mark Reynolds
#4. Forward Mark Reynolds (197-84, currently plays in United Kingdom) was not able to help Durham Wildcats (3-11) in their game against Surrey Heat (10-2) in the British BBL. He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Reynolds scored only 1 points. Durham Wildcats was badly defeated 91-74 in Guildford by the much higher-ranked Surrey Heat (#3). It was Durham Wildcats' seventh consecutive loss in a row. This season Reynolds averages just 1.0ppg. He used to play for the Irish national team back in 2007.

The list of other players, who all have Irish passport but never been selected to any of Irish national teams:

#1. Levon Kendall (209-F-84, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in a Blusens Monbus' victory against the closely-ranked Unicaja Malaga (6-5) 76-70 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 27 minutes. Blusens Monbus Obradoiro CAB (6-5) is placed tenth in the ACB. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Kendall is ranked eighth on the list of the top scorers in the league with 14.3ppg. He also averaged so far 5.8rpg and 1.8apg in the 11 games he played so far. Kendall has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Irish.

#2. Will Hanley (200-G/F-90, agency: Duran International, college: Bowdoin, currently plays in Spain) led Oviedo CB to a victory over the 14th-ranked La Palma (2-7) 92-81 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. Hanley was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 15 rebounds in 28 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Hanley's first season in pro basketball. Oviedo Club Baloncesto (5-3) is placed third in the LEB Silver. Hanley is ranked second on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (first place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Hanley averages: 18.6ppg, 10.4rpg and 1.6spg in the eight games. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Hanley has never played in Ireland.

#3. Owen McNally (203-F-87, college: Spring Hill, currently plays in United Kingdom), who plays in the British BBL could not help Glasgow Rocks (6-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance Glasgow Rocks lost 79-90 on the road to the lower-ranked (#8) Cheshire Phoenix. McNally scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 26 minutes. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year McNally's overall stats are: 3.7ppg and 4.7rpg in the 11 games. He is a naturalized American.

#4. Mihajlo Pesic (206-F/C-81, agency: Three Eye Sports, currently plays in Cyprus) contributed to a double overtime (!!!) AEL's victory against the third-ranked Apoel (4-3) 85-84 in the Cypriot Division A on Sunday night. Pesic recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 12 rebounds. Proteas Danoi AEL Limassol (2-5) is placed second from the bottom (#7) in the Division A. It was AEL's first victory after five consecutive loses. This season Pesic has relatively solid stats: 12.0ppg, 8.7rpg and 1.3spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Irish and Serbian.

#5. Orel Lev (195-SG-93, currently plays in Israel) was not able to help Hapoel Kfar Saba (4-5) in their game against Hapoel Afula (7-2) in the Israeli National League (second division). Lev scored 5 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Hapoel Kfar Saba was defeated 86-76 in Afula by the second-ranked Hapoel. It was Hapoel Kfar Saba's first loss after three consecutive victories. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Lev's total stats this season are: 6.4ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.4apg.

#6. Experienced Tony McCrory (199-G/F-77, college: Simon Fraser, currently plays in Switzerland) was not able to secure a victory for Starwings in their game against SAV Vacallo in the Swiss LNA, despite his good performance on Saturday night. He was the second best scorer with 10 points. McCrory also added 3 passes in 37 minutes. But his team was badly defeated by 20 points 76-56. This year McCrory has relatively solid stats: 12.9ppg, 3.2rpg and 2.6apg in the 10 games. He has both Canadian and Irish nationalities.

#7. Yaniv Strauss (190-F-92, currently plays in Israel) couldn't help Hapoel Kazrin in their game against Ironi Nahariya in the Israeli National League (second division). Strauss scored 5 points. His team was badly defeated by 19 points 102-83. This season Strauss averages only 3.1ppg.

#8. Bar Maor (191-PG-92, currently plays in Israel) is a teammate of previously mentioned Yaniv Strauss and both played together in the last Israeli National League game. Maor couldn't help Hapoel Kazrin in their game against Ironi Nahariya. He cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. Maor scored only 3 points in 12 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 19 points 102-83. This year Maor's total stats are: 1.8ppg and 1.3rpg in the eight games.

Irish Super League round 1 best performance: Phillip Lawrence - 1 day ago

American Forward Phillip Lawrence (201-F) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Moycullen, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 1. The player had a double-double of 24 points and 20 rebounds, while his team crushed KUBS (#10, 0-1) with 16-point margin 89-73. Moycullen is placed at 2nd position in Irish Super League. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Moycullen won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as...   [read more]
