In the Nivea Womens SuperLeague, an all Cork derby saw Team Montenotte Hotel Cork come away with a convincing win over Singleton SuperValu Brunell.

Similar to the Nivea Mens SuperLeague, many Cork natives believe that these two teams are starting a new rivalry comparable to Neptune and Demons. As that may be the case, the competition is still not as stiff, as SuperLeague vets, TMH Cork, came out on top by 30 points.

Andrea Congreaves, TMH Corks, head coach said, We know that Brunell are young and we expected them to be quick and resilient. We knew that in order to get a win we needed to match their intensity and speed and we did that.

On some occasions, we played well enough to out run them and that is where our conditioning helped us out.

Meanwhile in Dublin another derby game saw local rivals Killester take on DCU Mercy in the IWA Clontarf.

True to form DCU bounced back from their heart-breaking semi-final cup loss to TMH Cork as they saw off a young Killester with a 9 point win.

Mark Ingle, DCU Mercys head coach admitted, It was a ragged performance on our part but we got the win. Every time both sides meet there is always a great rivalry between us so it was good for us to come away on top.

Killester put up a great fight, Clarke and Scully really came into form offensively and Westbrooks worked hard for them on defence.

Elsewhere, Meteors picked up another much needed win when they took on WIT Wildcats in Booterstown.

This is the second win the southsiders have claimed over Wildcats this season with both games recorded as extremely tight affairs.

Speaking after the game, assistant coach, Nabil Murad said, Although we started well with tough intensity there was a patch in the game where our performance dipped and we gave them the opportunity to come back but, we kept at it, upping the tempo whenever we could.

Karen Meany and Doyle pulled down crucial rebounds while Kaljo shot the lights out for us. It was a great win for the girls.

Back in Limerick, reigning champions, UL Huskies recorded another impressive victory when they saw off Liffey Celtics as they prepare for their cup final next weekend.

James Weldon, UL Huskies, head coach said, Our defence was on point and we brought a lot of energy to the game. Everyone left with a clean bill of health so we are really looking forward to the cup clash now.
