BASKETBALL IRELAND WEEKEND PREVIEW

In the Nivea Womens SuperLeague, its DCU Mercy and Team Montenotte that will host the most exciting fixture for the ladies side as the old rivals go head to head once again.

Meanwhile, Ulster Rockets face a double challenge when they take on WIT Wildcats on Saturday and Singleton SuperValu Brunell the following day, both away from home. Other fixtures on the cards this weekend include, Killesters clash with UL Huskies and Meteors battle with Liffey Celtics.

Meanwhile in the Nivea Womens SuperLeague everyones attention will be firmly set to the clash between DCU Mercy and Team Montenotte Hotel Cork.

As the rivalry between the two teams thickens the result of this game will play a significant role in deciding who could potentially be crowned League Champions, should UL Huskies drop a game or two in the coming weeks.

The pressure is also on both sides to set themselves up nicely coming into the end of season play-offs.

Speaking about the game, head coach of Team Montenotte Hotel Cork, Andrea Congreaves is confident in her side, This is a big game and DCU are a tough team. We need to win this game to tip the balance in our favour coming down the stretch.

We are prepared for the challenge and the girls understand the importance of this fixture for us.

Ulster Rockets will also have a tough weekend ahead as they meet WIT Wildcats on Saturday and travel to Cork to take on Singleton SuperValu Brunell the following day.

Head coach, Bread Dick is also aware of the importance of this weekend, We need the points this weekend if we want a spot in the final 6 come the playoffs in March. We are back to full strengthen with Mairead McNally also back on board.

We had a good win last weekend over Brunell but everyone knows its a different story when you have to play them at home in the Parochial Hall in Cork. Were looking forward to both games and hopefully come out of this weekend with two wins.

Back in Dublin, Meteors will take on Liffey Celtics as the southsiders continue to chase a spot in the play-offs.

Meteors, head coach, Hugh Kilbride said, This is a crucial game for us against Liffey Celtics that we simply must win in order to keep our play-off dreams alive. We had a good performance last weekend and we are looking to build on that.

Elsewhere, Killester will take on top of the table UL Huskies in the IWA Clontarf as they look to catch the Cup Champions on their home court.
