Spanish Forward Dustan Moreira (202-F-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for UCD Marian, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. The 27-year old player had a double-double of 20 points and 21 rebounds, while his team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team KUBS (#12, 0-5) with 19-point margin 86-67. Thanks to this victory UCD Marian moved-up to the 4th position in Irish Super League. They are still close to the very top. UCD Marian would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 4-1 record. It's Moreira's second year at UCD Marian and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Dustan Moreira has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (8th best: 18.3ppg), rebounds (9th best: 10.8rpg) and averages impressive 69.6% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was another UCD Marian's star - 25-year old American Mike Garrow (193-G-91). Garrow had a very good evening with a double-double of 17 points and 19 rebounds. Of course together with Moreira he helped UCD Marian with another comfortable win 86-67 over KUBS (#12, 0-5) being unquestionably team leader. Despite this victory UCD Marian slide down in the standings to 4th position. His team lost just one game this season, while they won 4 matches. Garrow is a newcomer at UCD Marian, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Dillon Stith (200-F) of Belfast Star (#9). Stith got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for eight rebounds . Despite Stith's great performance Belfast Star lost 71-92 to the higher-ranked Swords Thunder (#2, 4-1). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Belfast Star can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-4 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Stith he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. The season just started for Stith as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Jason Killeen (211-C-85) of Templeogue - 27 points and 17 rebounds 5. Keelan Cairns (211-F-92) of Belfast Star - 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Goran Pantovic (208-F-91) of Tralee - 26 points and 14 rebounds 7. Michael Bonaparte (196-F-82) of Templeogue - 18 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists 8. Conroy Baltimore (198-F) of Swords Thunder - 16 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Isaac Westbrooks (189-PG-85) of Swords Thunder - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists 10. Brian Edwards) of KUBS - 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Kieran Donaghy (198-G/F-83) was the star of the show in Letterkenny today as Tralee swooped home to glory and scooped the silverware in the final of the Basketball Ireland Men's Champions Trophy. It was a thrilling finale in Donegal as Donaghy drove down the court and laid the ball up in style to send another epic battle with Regular Season champions, Templeogue, to overtime (66-66). That last gasp bucket was just one story of many that can be told from today's game, with Jason Killeen (211-C-85, college: Augusta) shining brightest for Templeogue in one of the closest Men's Super League clashes of the year. The story, however, lies with Tralee and the glory of their achievement and it is one that will be told for many years to come. From Donaghy to Trae Pemberton (193-G-92, college: Maryville, MO) - a guard who has dazzled for the Kingdom throughout the season - to Goran Pantovic (208-F-91, college: Drexel), the team worked as a unit throughout and managed to hold on in the dying seconds to add another page to the history books. It was Pemberton who stepped up to the mark with 7.8 seconds on the clock in overtime as they trailed Templeogue 73-70 and as hearts dropped around the court when his first effort did not find the mark, Donaghy was on hand for the offensive rebound to feed Pemberton once more and he made no mistake second time of asking to tie it yet again, 73-73. With double overtime looming, Donaghy had the final say of the game, adding a free throw in the dying seconds and it was with bated breath for all of Kerry as they watched the clock tick down in agonizing fashion.
