Spanish Center Jose Maria Gil (207-C-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Swords Thunder, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 25-year old player had a double-double of 29 points and 23 rebounds, while his team crushed Moycullen (#8, 2-5) with 23-point margin 102-79. Swords Thunder maintains the 2nd position in Irish Super League. They are still close to the very top. Swords Thunder would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 7-1 record. Gil turned to be Swords Thunder's top player in his first season with the team. Jose Maria Gil has solid league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 13.6rpg) and averages impressive 2.9bpg and 60.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 29-year old Latvian center Martins Provizors (202-C-87) of DCU Saints. Provizors had a very good evening with a double-double of 29 points and 22 rebounds. Bad luck as DCU Saints was edged by the higher-ranked Belfast Star (#7, 2-5) 82-78. This loss caused DCU Saints to drop to 10th position in the standings. 6 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories DCU Saints managed to get this year. Provizors is well-known at DCU Saints and is a proven leader in his second season with the team. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.0ppg (#8). His other stats are also decent: 15.9rpg and 3.1apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Mike Garrow (193-G-91) of UCD Marian (#3). Garrow scored 21 points and grabbed eighteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Garrow's great performance UCD Marian lost 74-79 to Tralee (6-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing UCD Marian needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 6 victories and 2 lost games. Garrow has a great season in Ireland. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.0ppg (7th best) and rebounds with 14.0rpg (3rd best). He also has 4.6spg, 2.0bpg and FGP: 58.4%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Lorcan Murphy (182-PG-94) of Templeogue - 34 points and 2 rebounds
5. Conroy Baltimore (198-F) of Swords Thunder - 21 points and 16 rebounds
6. Michael Bonaparte (196-F-82) of Templeogue - 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists
7. Dillon Stith (200-F) of Belfast Star - 28 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists
8. Keelan Cairns (211-F-92) of Belfast Star - 25 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Roy Downey (191-G) of UCC Demons - 24 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists
10. Paul Freeman (201-F-83) of Moycullen - 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
