Super League Round 12: No surprise as #1 Templeogue defeats DCU Saints - Jan 2, 2017

Super League top team - Templeogue (12-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked DCU Saints (3-9) in Dublin 98-75. Templeogue dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to DCU Saints' 56. Templeogue forced 19 DCU Saints turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international forward Michael Bonaparte (196-82, college: Coll.of the Ozarks) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international center Jason Killeen (211-85, college: Augusta) who added 24 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Templeogue's coach Mark Keenan felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was the former international center Martins Provizors (202-87) with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. Undefeated Templeogue have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-0 record. DCU Saints lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Eanna. Templeogue are looking forward to face Killester (#5) in Dublin in the next round. DCU Saints will play at home against Moycullen (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Tralee was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked UCC Demons (7-5) played at the court of sixth ranked Tralee (8-4). Tralee defeated UCC Demons 81-67. Tralee moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion UCC Demons dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Tralee will play against Belfast Star (#8) on the road in the next round. UCC Demons will play against UCD Marian and hope to get back on the winning track.

Belfast Star managed to escape with a 1-point win 65-64 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Dillon Stith who scored 24 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Ryan Wilson who recorded 26 points and 7 rebounds. Belfast Star moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Moycullen. UL Eagles lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Belfast Star will meet at home higher ranked Tralee (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. UL Eagles will play against KUBS (#11) in Greendale and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 12 KUBS lost to Moycullen on the opponent's court 81-87. Swords Thunder outscored Killester in a home game 85-64.

A very close game took place in Limerick between Belfast Star and UL Eagles. Eighth ranked Belfast Star (5-7) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked UL Eagles (1-11). Belfast Star managed to escape with a 1-point win 65-64 on Saturday evening. Belfast Star forced 20 UL Eagles turnovers. Strangely UL Eagles outrebounded Belfast Star 48-27 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Dillon Stith (200-92, college: St.Vincent) who scored 24 points. International forward Keelan Cairns (211-92, college: Pennsylvania) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Ryan Wilson (195-88, college: William Penn) who recorded 26 points and 7 rebounds and French guard Jonathan Dogbo (193, college: Gannon) added 14 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Belfast Star moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Moycullen. UL Eagles lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Moycullen - KUBS 87-81

Very expected game in Galway where 11th ranked KUBS (1-10) was defeated by seventh ranked Moycullen (5-7) 87-81 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Moycullen maintains seventh position with 5-7 record, which they share with Belfast Star. Newly promoted KUBS keeps the eleventh place with ten games lost. Moycullen will meet DCU Saints (#10) in the next round. KUBS will play against UL Eagles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Swords Thunder - Killester 85-64

Rather predictable result in Dublin where second ranked Swords Thunder (10-2) smashed 5th ranked Killester (7-4) 85-64 on Saturday. Swords Thunder maintains second position with 10-2 record having just two points less than leader Templeogue. Killester at the other side keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Swords Thunder's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Dublin Eanna.

Tralee - UCC Demons 81-67

The game in Tralee was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked UCC Demons (7-5) played at the court of sixth ranked Tralee (8-4). Tralee defeated UCC Demons 81-67. Tralee moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion UCC Demons dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Tralee will play against Belfast Star (#8) on the road in the next round.
