Eurobasket Exclusive: Will Bynum wants to reunite with Maccabi T.A.? - Jul 10, 2011

In the music industry it's called a 'remix', in the basketball business the same concept apparently applies, especially if you're a talented NBA point guard from Chicago whose name is Will Bynum.

A source exclusively informed 'Eurobasket' that Bynum, who played for Maccabi between the 2006-2008 seasons, expressed strong interest in and is eager to return to Israel for a so-called 'remix', where he would pair up with childhood friend, Jeremy Pargo, creating one of the most talented, fastest and most athletic back court line in Europe, as they will work to win a Euroleague title. 'Bynum would love to go back to Maccabi if it made sense,' said a source with knowledge of Bynum's situation, adding, 'But I know it would be tough for Maccabi to lose him if/when the lockout ends.'

The signing of Bynum could possibly complete the missing piece of Maccabi's head coach David Blatt's puzzle as the Chi town star would undoubtedly become the most impressive and significant recruit a European team has made this summer.

Bynum aka 'Bynumite', for his explosive athletic ability, played the last three seasons in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons and still has a signed contract with the organization. However, sources close to the player confirmed that he might be interested in opting out of his contract to join Maccabi. 'He did love playing overseas and especially with Maccabi and would never turn down an opportunity to go back if it made sense.'

Israeli sources confirmed that Maccabi is negotiating contract terms with an NBA point guard. Bynum finished the past season playing in 61 games, starting in five of them and posting averages of 7.9 points, 1.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

The 28 year-old Bynum could turn out being the perfect fit for Blatt, who is in search of a recognized NBA point guard to round out his talented roster. Bynum began his college career at the University of Arizona but after his sophomore season, transferred to Georgia Tech where he helped for the 'Yellow-Jackets' and reached the NCAA Final Four championship game averaging 12.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He first appeared in the NBA in the 2005/6 season playing 15 games for the Golden State Warriors averaging 10.8 minutes and 3.6 points. In the 2008/09 season, Bynum joined the Pistons and is playing there ever since. In Europe, Bynum finished his 2007/08 Euroleague season recording 10.6 points and 3 assists per game where in the Israeli domestic league he would post 6.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 26 games.

Maccabi has also showed great potential interest in American Guard Javaris Crittenton (Georgia Tech), who previously played for the Dakota Wizards of the NBA D-League. Crittenton was drafted with the 19th pick in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers and also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards and China's Zhejiang Lions. Another name that is considered in the Nokia halls is that of Shooting Guard E'Twaun Moore (University of Purdue), who was selected 55th overall in the 2nd round of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics.

To date, the yellow-and-blue inked Shawn James, Jon Scheyer, Devin Smith and TBD Bynum's former teammate Yotam Halperin (trying to overcome financial tax issues), joined by Jeremy Pargo, Guy Pnini, Lior Eliyahu, Richard Hendrix, Tal Burstein, Milan Macvan, Sofoklis Schortsanitis, David Blu, Derrick Sharp and Sean Labanowski.
