Maccabi Electra - Panathinaikos 69-78

Panathinaikos did a great job in Tel Aviv on Thursday night. The defending Euroleague champion celebrated 69-78 victory at Nokia arena tying the score to 2-2 in the Euroleague Quarterfinals. It means that PAO forced crucial Game Five, which will be played next week at their home court in Athens. Nick Calathes (198-G-89, college: Florida) shined when it mattered most for his team scoring 15 points. Sarunas Jasikevicius (192-G-76, college: Maryland) had 13 points, while Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-C/F-83) (7 rebs) and Dimitris Diamantidis (196-G-80) helped their team with 12 points each. Diamantidis made some crucial free throws during the last period of the game. In Maccabi, Devin Smith (196-G/F-83, college: Virginia) answered with 14 points and 7 boards. Keith Langford (193-G/F-83, college: Kansas) also scored 14 and Lior Eliyahu (206-F/C-85, agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) added two less. Maccabi was 19-17 up after ten minutes of play, but PAO opened the second period with 2-8 run. Nick Calathes and his teammates later went on the halftime with 36-41 lead. After Devin Smith closed the gap to 3, Calathes took charge with a layup and a three to put his team up 8. Steven Smith then buried a wide-open timeout from the corner for a 38-49 lead, which prompted Maccabi coach David Blatt to call timeout. The hosts created 9-0 run in just three minutes and Smith finally responded for PAO with a slam. Later PAO went to the last period with plus 4, 50-54. Visitors extended margin to 51-59 and Maccabi replied with 13-5 for 65-64 lead. That was all from Maccabi last night as Dimitris Diamantidis and Kostas Kaimakoglou led their team to crucial 10-0 run, which allowed PAO to win the game. Quarters: 19-17, 17-24, 14-13, 19-24. As mentioned above, teams will meet in Game Five next week at OAKA Arena in Athens.

Maccabi Electra: Devin Smith 14+7 boards, Keith Langford 14, Lior Eliyahu 12
Panathinaikos: Nick Calathes 15, Sarunas Jasikevicius 13, Kostas Kaimakoglou 12+7 boards, Dimitris Diamantidis 12
