The most exciting game of round 8 in the Winner League took place in Eilat. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers GreenTops Netanya (5-3) to fourth ranked Hapoel Eilat (5-2) 68-65 in the game for the third place. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But GreenTops Netanya won third quarter 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hapoel Eilat won last quarter 11-10. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Eli Holman (208-89, college: Detroit Mercy) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Afik Nissim (186-81) who added 10 points and 9 assists during the contest. Hapoel Eilat's coach Oded Katash used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American swingman Deron Washington (201-85, college: Virginia Tech) responded with 9 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Hapoel Eilat moved-up to third place. GreenTops Netanya lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Hapoel Eilat are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. GreenTops Netanya will play against the league's leader Maccabi T-A (#1) in Tel-Aviv and is hoping to win this game.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tel-Aviv: Maccabi T-A (#1) and Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#4). Maccabi T-A (7-1) smashed visiting Hapoel Tel-Aviv (4-3) by 19 points 91-72. The winners were led by international Lior Eliyahu (206-85) who scored that evening 20 points and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and Yogev Ohayon supported him with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 20 points and 7 assists by American point guard Demontez Stitt (186-89, college: Clemson) did not help to save the game for Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Maccabi T-A have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-1 record. Newly promoted Hapoel Tel-Aviv dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with Maccabi Rishon. Maccabi T-A will play against GreenTops Netanya (#4) on the road in the next round. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against Hapoel Holon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Galil Gilboa managed to get the second consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they outleveled tenth-ranked Maccabi Ashdod in Rosh Pina 90-70. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 20-point difference suggests that Galil Gilboa is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. And what about a second win in a row after ...six consecutive loses. The best player for the winners was Jamar Smith who scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Galil Gilboa's coach Lior Lubin used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Diamon Simpson produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Galil Gilboa (2-6) moved-up to eleventh place. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Galil Gilboa will meet higher ranked Bnei Hasharon (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Hapoel Eilat and will have a slim chance for a victory.
An interesting game took place in Holon where 8th ranked Hapoel Holon (3-5) was upset on its own court by eleventh ranked Ironi Ashkelon (2-5) 93-88. Americans were the main players on the court. Marcus Dove orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Ironi Ashkelon moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Bnei Hasharon. Hapoel Holon lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with five games lost. Ironi Ashkelon's next round opponent will be higher ranked Maccabi Rishon (#6) in Rishon Le-Zion and it may be quite challenging game.

In the last two games of round 8 Bnei Hasharon lost to Maccabi Haifa on the opponent's court 86-91. Maccabi Rishon unfortunately lost to Hapoel J-M in a home game 81-86.

Maccabi Haifa - Bnei Hasharon 91-86

Very expected game when 9th ranked Bnei Hasharon (2-5) was defeated on the road by second ranked Maccabi Haifa (6-2) 91-86. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-13. But Bnei Hasharon won third quarter 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. International point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 9 assists. American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Brad Greenberg allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international forward Ben Rice (195-90, agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) replied with 27 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Jumaine Jones (203-79, college: Georgia) added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Bnei Hasharon. Maccabi Haifa have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-2 record behind leader Maccabi T-A. Bnei Hasharon lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with five games lost. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be Hapoel J-M (#7) in Jerusalem where they are favorite. Bnei Hasharon will play at home against Galil Gilboa in Rosh Pina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was a great shooting night for Ironi Ashkelon especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. 25 personal fouls committed by Hapoel Holon helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Marcus Dove (206-85, college: Oklahoma St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Marque Perry (185-81, college: St.Louis, agency: N.E.T.) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Guard Jerome Dyson (191-87, college: Connecticut) replied with 15 points and 8 assists and forward Tyler Smith (201-86, college: Tennessee) added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Hapoel Holon. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures.
