Best players of Israeli National League round 9 - Dec 12, 2012

Allen Durham
American Allen Durham (198-F-88) had a great game in the last round for league's second-best Hapoel Afula and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com National League Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 24-year old forward had a double-double of 31 points and twenty two rebounds, while his team beat Hapoel K/S (#8, 4-5) 86-76. Hapoel Afula is placed at 2nd position in Israeli National League. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Hapoel Afula will need more victories to improve their 7-2 record. Durham turned to be Hapoel Afula's top player in his first season with the team. Grace Bible College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Durham is league's best scorer averaging so far 21.2ppg. Durham is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 14.2rpg) and averages solid 52.2% FGP. Worth to mention Durham played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old guard Aviram Zelkovits (193-G-89) of Ironi Nahariya. Zelkovits impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Of course he lead Ironi Nahariya to another comfortable win 102-83 over the lower-ranked Hapoel Kazrin (#10, 3-6) being unquestionably team leader. Ironi Nahariya's 7th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 6-3 record is not bad and everything may still change. Zelkovits is a newcomer at Ironi Nahariya and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Nigerian Chukwudinma Odiakosa (203-F/C-85, agency: N.E.T.) of Hod Hasharon (#3). Odiakosa scored 22 points and grabbed seventeen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Hod Hasharon, leading his team to a 80-69 win against the lower-ranked Elitzur Ramla (#12, 2-7). Hod Hasharon needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 7 victories and 2 lost games. Odiakosa has a great season in Israel. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.0ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 16.1rpg (#1 in league). He also has 1.3bpg and FGP: 62.7%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jermaine Hall (196-F-80) of Macc.B.Yaakov - 26 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Ramon Clemente (200-PF-85) of Ironi Nahariya - 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Amit Tamir (208-C/F-79) of Ironi Ramat Gan - 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Bilal Benn (196-G/F-86) of Ironi Nes-Ziona - 25 points and 9 rebounds
8. Keith Ramsey (205-F-87) of Ironi Ramat Gan - 16 points and 13 rebounds
9. Tal Michael Dunne (197-F-87) of Ironi Nes-Ziona - 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Greg Murray (195-F-89) of Kiryat Tivon - 27 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
