D1 Round 7: Hap.Petah Tikva loses to Maccabi Ashdod in the game between Top 4 teams - Dec 18, 2012

The game between Top Four teams took place in Petah Tikva. 4th placed host Hap.Petah Tikva (3-3) was smashed by leader Maccabi Ashdod (7-0) 114-79. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 61-24 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Maccabi Ashdod dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Hap.Petah Tikva's 42. Maccabi Ashdod forced 19 Hap.Petah Tikva turnovers and outrebounded them 45-27 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Hap.Petah Tikva's players. It was a great evening for American forward Charde Houston (185-86, college: Connecticut, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory scoring 32 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Her fellow American import Ashley Shields (180-85, college: SW Tenn.St.CC) helped adding 22 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals. Maccabi Ashdod's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Jamaican power forward Vanessa Gidden (193-85, college: Hofstra, agency: Ronsport) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws). Undefeated Maccabi Ashdod have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-0 record. Hap.Petah Tikva at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Ramat Hasharon and Maccabi R.Hen. Maccabi Ashdod will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hap.Petah Tikva will play on the road against Maccabi Ramat Hen (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion (0-6) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their sixth consecutive match to seventh ranked Elitzur Netanya (2-3) 85-74. Americans were the main players on the court. It was an exceptional evening for forward Courtney Hurt (185-90, college: VCU) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds. Chastity Reed accounted for 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Tiffany Hayes (177-89, college: Connecticut) came up with 35 points (!!!) and 4 steals for Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion in the defeat. Elitzur Netanya maintains seventh place with 2-3 record. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion lost their sixth game in a row. They still closes the standings with six games lost. Elitzur Netanya will play against higher ranked Ramat Hasharon (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion will play against the league's second-placed Galil Elion having rather not much hope for a victory.

In the last two games of round 7 Maccabi R.Hen lost to Galil Elion on the opponent's court 75-84. Elitzur Ramla managed to outperform Ramat Hasharon in a home game 63-53.

This time Galil Elion used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Ramat Hen 84-75. The hosts were ahead by 2 points but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 28-18 run, which allowed them to win the game. Galil Elion made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court.
